For all those who took the test today please state what level you took then answer the following questions:

On a scale of 1-10 how difficult was the test over all?

On a scale of 1-10 how difficult was each section of the test: Verbal, Quantitative, Comprehension, Arithmetic, & Essay?

What book did you use to study and how well did it prepare you?

How well did you think you did?

I took the Upper Level test.
Overall: 6
Verbal: 2
Quantitative: 5
Comprehension: 3.5 (the stories were so boring that I found it hard to concentrate)
Arithmetic: 7
Essay: 1 (I loved my topic)

I studied from The Princeton Review’s book. I think it would have prepared me well if I had actually sat down and studied it more. I certainly helped on some of the math problems though.

I think I did decent. I know I did rather poorly on the arithmetic, but the others were pretty easy, so I think I did fine on those.

I didn’t take it today, but if it helps, here you go.

I took the Upper Level:
Overall: 7 (I did well, but it was definitely harder than I expected)
Verbal: 6 (To my surprise, I missed a few words. Definitely didn’t think that was going to happen)
Quantitative: 3 (Perfect score)
Reading Comp: 4 (1 off)
Math Achievement: 3 (1 careless mistake)
Essay: 6 (Not my strong suit)

I didn’t study much, but for the person above me, did the Princeton Review book help? I tried to use it for the SHSAT, but I though it sucked.

Okay, I had taken it yesterday as well and had wanted to know how other people thought of it. So, it would be unfair if I left the questions without my own answers… So here we go.

I had also taken the Upper Level test.

Overall- 7.5
Verbal-6
Quantitative- 7
Reading-4 (But they were booooring!)
Arithmetic- 8 (I didn’t finish!)
Essay-2 (Barely finished, wrote the last word on ‘time’) :O

I had used The Princeton Review, Kaplan, and the online guide and practice test on the ERB website. The Princeton Review actually had errors in the book! Also, it did not give any explanations for the answers which Kaplan did. But, Kaplan has more vocab words, which I actually would suggest to stick with the Princeton Review on that because you end up over-studying vocab with Kaplan. Kaplan’s tests were too easy I would say. Using the ones on the ERB website was helpful, and more accurate… but I did not see problems that were on the practice test on the actual test that I took. I would say if you had time, start with Kaplan, go to TPR, then (if you have time) take the one on the ERB website.

Upper Level

Overall: 7
Verbal: 5 - wasn’t that bad, but the sentence completion part was hard at the end
Quantitative: 8 - aah!! barely finished this part, hopefully I didn’t do that bad
Reading Comp: 3 - easiest part
Math Achievement: 6 - wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, but still barely finished
Essay: 3, easy topic, but a suckish conclusion!

I used the Princeton Review book and I don’t think it helped at all! Waste of money! Maybe for SSAT but not ISEE.

Probably did really bad on Quantitative Reasoning, and the Sentence completion part of verbal. I’d expect 70s-80s on Reading Comp and Math and 50s-70s Verbal and Quantitative. I don’t think studying word flashcards or something would help really… you just have to be lucky enough to get words you know!! I didn’t think I knew a lot of topics on the Quantitative and Math Achievement just because i’m not that far up there in math. I took the ISEE last year and got great scores on Quantitative but i’m not sure that will happen this year! Hoping for the best though!

By the way, does anyone know when we get our scores in the mail?

I asked, and they told me:

Schools usually receive the scores within 7-10 days, and the parents a day or two after that.
