Which one is more important? Which one is more difficult? What do you think about each one?
What your options are depend on what grade you are applying for. Check the school requirements. PSAT/SAT/ACT would be for 11th or 12th. ISEE is more common for middle school but some schools will accept it for 9th. SSAT is most typical for 9th & 10th.
What test is necessary for Exeter? Can I just take the SAT and still get in? The other tests aren’t easily accessible for me.
@jswani: The SAT test score is only one part of the application. You can’t take the test, get a great score, and automatically be admitted to Exeter–it’s not an entrance exam. What grade are you in? If you’re applying for 9th/10th it’s the SSAT or ISEE. If it’s 11th/12th, it’s the PSAT, SAT, or ACT. You can only submit one test. http://exeter.edu/documents/Application_Procedures.pdf, first page.
@thelittleswimmer Ok thanks. I knew it was only one part of the application, my question was asking what tests I needed to take to apply to Exeter. It seems that most people take the SSAT, and I was wondering if I could take the SAT instead, and if there are any downsides. And I’m applying to 11th.
The Exeter website has a page that gives you this information:
Oh I see! Sorry, I misunderstood your phrase!
Copy and paste, Exeter’s website:
"Applying for grade 11
Applicants for grade 11 submit current ISEE or SSAT or recent PSAT, ACT, or SAT scores; please do not substitute with SAT II scores.
ISEE and SSAT
Complete your ISEE or SSAT testing during the school year in which you’re applying, no earlier than August.
The test results should be in the Admissions Office by January 15 for a March 10 decision. If you take the January test, we understand that the testing organization will forward the score reports to us as soon as possible. Please let us know if you’ve had to delay testing beyond January.
Instruct the ISEE or SSAT organization to send your scores directly to Exeter. We cannot accept a family’s copy of the scores because they do not include the required writing sample.
If the ISEE or SSAT test is not given in your area, check into the possibility of testing with an educational consultant. If this alternative is not possible, then please contact us.
PSAT and SAT
PSAT or SAT testing can be completed during any academic year, but recent scores are preferable.
ACT or PSAT scores can either be sent as a part of the applicant’s official school transcript or we will also accept a photocopy of your family’s PSAT score report.
SAT scores can be sent directly to Exeter from The College Board, sent as part of the applicant′s official school transcript, or we will accept a photocopy of your family′s SAT score report.
Exeter′s school codes are: SSAT 5764, ISEE 300185, SAT 1884. The school code is not required for PSAT."
I don’t think there are any downsides to taking the SAT, since a lot of other 11th/12th/PG applicants will take the ACT/SAT/PSAT. From Exeter’s website, you can submit your current ISEE/SSAT test scores if you would like. You could take both and see whichever score is higher and submit that one.
