ISEF 2006 and RSI

I was wondering if maybe there could be a little thread for people who are going to ISEF this year and RSI...so that we could learn each other's names, who we are, and see one another at ISEF in May... :-)

I don't know how many people that are going to RSI are also going to ISEF, but I imagine there are others...I have already seen posts from some who are going.

Maybe people could post about what their project is, and stuff...

Just a random idea. :-)

~tweetle~

In the past a ISEF RSI meeting has been arranged with help from CEE and matt mcgann, so no worries!

I'm going! Chemistry, physical. I know last year, MIT also hosted a luncheon (and the food was really really good), perhaps, we can also meet up there. I would also like to meet people i'm going to spend 6 weeks with!

btw: my project is on how protons move within crystal structures. The technical title is "the mechanisms of proton transfer within one dimensional water channels stablized by imidazole compounds" <--(it's a mouthful...)

vanilea, that is awesome about your project! I put Chemistry, physical as my second choice (astronomy was my first). I do Raman spectroscopy---are you familiar with it? Your project sounds very cool...If I see you at ISEF I will be sure to ask you about it... :-)

I know Matt McGann had a luncheon thingy last year for RSI peoples...that sounds fun...

I'm so excitable!

~tweetle~

two luncheons...wow...i'm going to be a fatty at the end of the isef trip! DO you know what hotel you're staying at, my group is going to be at the Omni Severon (pretty spiffy...and even more spiffy that its free for me). Perhaps, we could get all the rsi people together, and throw a giant get to know party...hahahaha. i know the year before last, the isef group from my state, went "ice bowling" in the hallways....i wasn't with them then, but it does seem like a lot of fun :D!

That's an awesome idea! (About throwing an rsi party, lol.) We could all meet one another...we could order pizza or something...in previous years at isef I have not really known very many people there, but this year there are some people from various places I am expecting...which will be cool.

How much do you expect to work on your isef project in the month before isef? I have had precious little time to do anything much because of ap tests...

I don't remember what hotel I'm staying at...I get to go for free, also, which is awesomeness. Indianapolis is not that far from where I live (Oklahoma) so I might be driving instead of flying...I'm not sure yet. :D

Last year, I mainly just hung out with people from my state, but it will be cool to meet other people this year, now that I at least know them from the web :D! Also, if we were to get a pizza, we better order it early because i remember last year, my group wanted to order, and the pizza place said it would take over 2 hours for the pizza to arrive!!! We tried to bribe a pizza guy we saw delievering pizza to another group by saying we would pay him double if he gave the pizza to us, but he didn't :(! Everything ended up working out, cuz team kentucky fasted on food everyon had brought. Left over chicken terriyaki and wheat thins can taste mighty good when your hungry!

:D

Very well, then. It's settled. We can have an CC Rickoid party at ISEF and order a big pizza...early :) I'm so excited... ISEF is SOOO fun...

I'm rather easily excitable.

~Mary~

ISEF is a blast!! I think "team kentucky" (dumb name) is going to drive over as well to save money. We're leaving the night of grand awards, so i'm a bit upset that we don't get to stay as long as last year.

Im going to ISEF, but not RSI. Im a sophmore, my project is in medicine and health.

end, you're going to have a blast at isef. last year when i went as a sophomore, it was awesome. i came back with a tan because it was in arizona, and that made some of my friends wonder if i was really at a "science fair thing"...lol

lol, what tours r u guys going to go on?

Yeah guys make sure you check your email during ISEF!! They have tons of computers so yeah sometimes they're all taken and its busy but other times no one is there. Someone will be emailing you with info on an RSI get-together during ISEF. I hope I get to go to ISEF :/

zogoto, i also wish that i would get accepted to the colleges you got accepted into. Perhaps next year when I apply, i'll have the same luck :D!

Hah, i WISH i could go to isef...my team project didn't turn out so well, though

ISEF is an competition based both on skill and luck. A team project that went to the Regionals in Siemens, only got 3rd at the school ISEF qualifying fair because a judge just didn't like it (the isef qualifying project in my opinion wasn't nearly as well done). Our state science fair was completely corrupt for everyone in physical sciences was only judged once. I don't think its fair to base a student's months, and in some cases, years of work (in cases of continuations), on one judges opinion (which is really all you can have, because you can't expect a judge to be both a specialist in quantum chemistry <--my project and nanowire technology <-- my friend's project). For final judging because there wasn't enough time, students in life sciences were given 2 minutes to present their whole project, and students in physical weren't given time, judges just judged them by their boards. That's "FAIR" now, isn't it?

btw...about the tours...i don't really know...i haven't looked into that. Indianapolis is pretty close to where i live (proud kentuckian...expect not...i would rather refer to myself as a floridian, which is what i was before i was uprooted during the summer of my 8th grade year)...so i'm not that excited about tours...and given my back luck with the isef people (last year had to change project's title last minute because of dumb reasons)...i'll probably be doing some last minute project fixing...

I'm headed to ISEF for the second time with a botany project. I used buckminsterfullerenes in a new way. Year two was much more exciting than year one. I never really hung out with the people from my state, it was mostly the girl from my fair and me plus the crew from Austrailia, it was awesome.

I'm headed for ISEF as well... but not RSI. Still maybe I'll drop by and see all you guys? Can we make a compilation of ppl here and their project numbers? That way at least I won't have to hang out only w/ ppl from my state. I'll start:
