ISEF and olympiads

Hey guys,

What are you chances at MIT if you've done ISEF, an international olympiad, RSI, but academics aren't as strong as other applicants? (eg. SAT scores) Which factor will outweigh the other?

umm.. I think there have only ever been like (two?) rejections of RSI alumni. I think it's safe to say... you're in. :)

collegebound, are you a rickoid?

this is nghi, rickoido4

I'm RSI '03, and I'm an international student, so that would make it much more competitive...

Does anyone actually know of any international RSI participants who have been rejected by the adcom? Or is the success rate pretty high too? And does it give you an edge if you're female?=)

Also, is there a maximum quota for freshman intakes from each country? Thanks!

To staticsoliloquy: outta curiosity, who was your rsi counselor?=) And what was your rsi paper on?

What do you think about the 1 rank (also 2 rank yaer before) in State Olympiad? Can it increase my chances?

What is RSI?

Research Science Institute - held at MIT every summer, now at Caltech too=)

How about an international student who once qualified USAMO?

what is rickoid?

oh... does a student have to have a great accomplishment(research/competition) already to be selected for RSI?? (i guess -0-;;)

also can a senior be in RSI a summer after their senior year(right after a graduation)??

Which international olympiad you went to? If it was IMO, which country were you from?

a rickoid = rsi participant=) Hrm when i was at rsi, i don't think anyone had actually graduated from high school yet. Maybe you'd like to email the CEE (<a href="http://www.cee.org%5B/url%5D">www.cee.org</a>) and ask them?

I went for the Chemistry Olympiad-- I'm from Singapore as well--

hey, my counselor was arup last year, what year were you, mit hopeful girl?
rsi rocks my socks!!

yeah rsi rocks woo hoo! I'm from rsi 03=)

collegebound 1010's from rsi 03 too btw=) ssshafted, what was your rsi project on?

Hey guys,
Kinda new to this site. Applying to MIT under Early Action. I m GOING to enter ISEF, INTEL STS, and a bunch of other regional science competitions this Winter. My SAT scores aren't particularly that good plus Im competing against two people who have good SAT scores. What are my chances ??

Since we're on the topic, I'll ask the same question the original poster asked but with making Semifinalist for Siemens Westinghouse (and no, I didn't go to RSI). . .my grades are great, but my SATs are less than median for MIT. . .so it seems like an appropriate question to ask.

I was talking with Matt McGann in his office just this past week and he told me he was looking over the list of siemens semis, so that's a good thing. Regional finalists come out tomorrow, gl! If you're from the northeast, maybe I'll see you @ MIT? :)
