I have a good feeling about UMass and may be going there in the fall. Since it is a bigger school I am a bit wary about going with a random roommate. I have heard RAP’s are a good way to focus yourself and live in a community of people with similar interests. Could someone explain them to me a little more? Also, would I feel too constricted because I would be taking classes and living with the same people?
My son is doing engineering at UCONN. For his freshman year he lived in the engineering learning community (uconn’s version of a RAP). It was very good for him. It is a good way to make a large school smaller, helped him get to know people, makes it easier to find people to study with, etc.
As we discussed in your other thread, My D is going to UMass in the fall. She was invited to the CHC and plans to apply to the Isenberg RAP within the CHC. Again she wants to make a large school smaller, wants to be with others that take their studies seriously, and assumes that it will make it easier to make friends and find people to study with.
Ya, getting a good group of people to together is key when dealing with any large school. RAP’s are good, also picking the correct dorm is important as well. What’s you personality type and what do you plan to study? I could probably give a few suggestions based on that.
