<p>PROFILE vs ISFAA is a historical thing: PROFILE was originally designed for domestic students only and international students used the ISFAA. Then Collegeboard decided to make profit off of international applicants too and expanded PROFILE to work for international students. You have to pay for each submission of PROFILE, while ISFAA is free.</p>
<p>Colleges seem to prefer PROFILE over ISFAA because it automatically computes your family contribution. ISFAA applications, in contrast, have to be processed by hand.</p>
