Isn't having a dream school the worst decision EVAR?!

"Somehow" Wharton has become my dream school over the past two years... and since chances of me getting in are super-slim... how the h*ll am I going to deal with a rejection?! :P will probably be bummed out by a Wharton-rejection even if I would get into Harvard! :P

Anyone feel the same? These last 25 hrs and 47 min are kiiillling me :P

crazy

I think an admission to Harvard would take away some of the sting of a Wharton rejection.

Yes…

yes… as many cc posters would advise!!

Yes, having a dream school is a pretty bad decision. Most students pick their “dream schools” based on prestige or sports or football or tradition or or whatever and attach baseless romantic feelings to a pile of bricks. The result is they have made themselves vulnerable for pain in the case of rejection. In reality, these students would be satisfied emotionally and intellectually at many schools around the country, but for some reason, they’ve decided to attach (and limit) themselves to one in particular.

In reality, school is what you make of it. Tons of schools have great academic potential. The students and professors at all of them are great and friendly; thinking that the university having a certain name and certain location will make them fulfill every desire of your life and future is pretty absurd.

Sure, some schools are a better match for you academically and socially than others, and it’s certainly okay for one schools to come out on the top of the list, but the attachment of emotions is pretty uncalled for. At the end of the day, it isn’t that different than all the other schools on your list.

Well, having a dream school motivated me to stop slacking off, do well on the SAT, write good essays, start volunteering (something that I’ve come to enjoy immensely), and generally think about where my life was going. So even if I don’t get into my dream school, which looks exceedingly likely as I’ve been waitlisted there, the focus it gave me will have been very beneficial to me as a person.

^If that’s what it takes, then good. However the prospect of going to a good school was enough to motivate me. It didn’t need a name.

It is stupid, but I have to say, when you get in, it is an surreal feeling.

-UVA dreamer (now a student :D)

It’s absolutely horrible, especially the wait…but when you get accepted to your dream school, it’s absolutely amazing <3. I thought I had no hope whatsoever at GWU. I’m sending in my deposit by the middle of April and I have never been happier. Having this school as a dream school gave me something to strive for. It helped stave off senioritis until after acceptance / rejection. :)

well… Wharton has been my dream school too. sigh. Just got rejected lol. (deferred then rejected.) I guess Wharton will just have to see my app again nxt year… or the nxt nxt until I get in haha. :D

Good luck
