Isn't lying inevitable and unavoidable?

my top #1 choice was actually a safety for me and its rolling admit so i got accepted a week ago and ive been to accepted to u of dayton which i love so basically im only waiting on depauw(3rd choice) which is actually the most selective .... now just got to wait for aid packages

Wow...congratulations. Lucky you!

thanks i wish you good luck as well

cool2bars, I ended up at my safety school, not because I didn't get in to my first picks, but because of financial reasons. I made sure that every single one I applied to, minus the University of Illinois which my parents MADE me apply to, was a school I would be very happy at. Sure, I may have been happier at one than at the other, or at least thought I would be. But when it came down to it, I would have been happy at every one of the schools I applied to. Don't apply to BU just because it's easy. Find another school that matches you better that could ALSO serve as a safety. It sucks to go into a school already wanting to transfer.

almost everyone lies on their apps some way or another.

I am of the mind set that it is a waste of time as a student and a waste of money on the parent's part for a student to attend a school where they really do not want to be at.

This is the reason that you hear most of us parents stress that you have a true safety (one that if admitted you would be happy to attend and is also a financially feasible option for your parents).

while granted you are only tied down to a school for a semester or a year and transferring is always an option, transferring is not as easy as you think and unless you are sitting on a bag full of money, scholarhips for transfer students are few and far between and there are many schools that do not even offer financial aid (out side of loans) for transfer students.

You definitely lose the option for merit aid that schools use to attract students as a transfer because there is no reason to woo you. You miss out maybe getting accepted in to special programs that you can only be admitted to freshman year and don't take transfer students the list can go on.

So please do not apply to a school with the mindset of that will do for now. The schools that are need blind and fill 100% of your demonstrated need with large amounts of grant aid have very high retention rates which translates into very few spots for transfers.

its a lot better to go to a college that u dont like very much than 2 not go at all

No, sometimes it is better to take a gap year, do something productive and do the process over again because you will still have all of your options (academic and financial) open.

My suggestion is to continue safety hunting. There are so many colleges and universities in the U.S. that surely you can find a safety that you would actually not mind attending. Otherwise you are setting yourself up for disappointment and wasting your time on an application. Sure you want to have a back up so you don't end up rejected from everywhere, but you also want to make sure that the back up is some where you might have a shot at being happy. You might be surprised how many people found they were perfectly happy at their safeties.

I already am taking a gap year, I'm just planning on defering to wherever I choose to go. I guess I could always apply again a year from now, but I would end up applying to the same schools, so what would change? Plus, I'm not changing anything now, its too late, and gosh, maybe I am sitting on bags of money!

I created composite characters in my Personal Statement for the sake of simplicity. While I may have not told the truth exactly as it is, I did not cange any important facts.
