Macs are pretty good for mobility, but I needed my lap-top not just as a lap-top, but as an effective and powerful desktop as well on which I could do my graphics and programming work on.

I got the Toshiba Satellite A100 last week and so far it has been great. Of course it's not the eye-candy that Mac books are (but then have you seen how dirty they get after a while? the curses of glimmering white! :p), but I love the large screen [and at the same time I personally really don't care for neither the Mac nor windows interfaces since my previous Linux computer basically ruled them both in terms of cutomization and functionality.] A big advantage of non-mac laptops I think is their flexibility, you can take them apart, add drives yourself and so on... My Toshiba is 15.4" and the most comfortable resolution to use on it is 1280x800, a pretty big screen. Lookwise, looks pretty cool and professional, and beats it's sony v. counterparts on the market.
