For the past week, I’ve been trying to fill out my FAFSA and I have completed all of it except for the IRS taxes part. Whenever I try to use the IRS retrieval tool, it leads to a page that says that the site is going through maintenance. There is no indication of how long this outage will be for and it’s been like this since Saturday. Anyone else going through this and what can I do? I would try to fill the information myself but every time I’ve done it, there has been an issue which required me to go to the school to clear things up.
There is another thread started today that several people are having the same problem. You can submit by filling in the form manually (old school!).
I apologize for this then. I looked it up and I couldn’t find it so I will refer to that thread. Thank you for letting me know.
When I filled out FAFSA the IRS data retrieval tool would not work for me. In the end, I manually entered the line items from my tax return. Later, the schools asked for an IRS transcript which is a document that you request from the IRS that includes all of your tax information regurgitated in a different format but it serves as your official proof of paying/filing taxes. It is a good idea, to save potential headaches later, to simply request the transcript so you have it. If I recall, I might have used it for the CSS Profile too but I am not certain.
You can enter the numbers manually…and later link to the DRT as well.
