Can someone chance me for ED/RD (I know ED is almost/up, I'm applying next year), please? I really love Duke. My stats:

UnWeighted GPA: 3.90
Weighted GPA: 4.43
Rank: Top 10% (specifically, I'm about number 13-14 in my school)
SAT: 2010 (re-taking in Dec and confident I can do well over 2100 but I don't want to get my hopes up so I'll just say 2100)
SAT II: Taking Chem, Math I/II (haven't decided yet) and possibly Physics and think I can score above a 680 on all of them.
ACT: 32
ECs: National Honors Society (Vice-President), National Science Honors Society, 100 hours volunteer work at Arnold Palmer Hospital, National BETA Club.
APs: Human Geo (4), World History (4), US History (4), Chemistry (5), Biology (4), Statistics (3), Lang and Comp (4), Psychology (5), American Government (4).
Others: NMSF, National Hispanic Scholar, Ventures Scholar, low-income bracket, Florida resident, big upward trend in GPA from freshman year up.

Thanks.

I’m a 2010-2011 ED-er, your gpa is right in range just make sure you maintain your grades junior like (unlike me) - It’s good that you’re retaking the SAT’s b/c they’re slightly lower - the National Hispanic Scholar and service is impressive though I didn’t find any sports/music related ec’s in there - maybe I just read over it - but keep up the good work, raise your scores and you will have a good shot next year ED!

I can’t play sports for a medical reason, and I’m not very musically attuned to put it politely. Is that going to seriously affect my chances?

You got in ED? Congratulations, that’s really awesome!

You don’t necessarily need music or sports (I had neither), but you do need some sort of angle or selling point. If it’s not something that will show up in a resume, make sure to focus on it in an essay.

No - I’ve applied but am awaiting a decision this December - and I can empthize with you too - I have a severe visual impairment so I don’t play sports - but I just meant some kind of passion be it artistic/creative that is unique…anyways good luck man!

Your stats are a bit low, so that will put you at an initial disadvantage. However, if your essays are brilliant, then you will have a decent chance.

My advice would be to shoot for at least a 700 on all SAT II’s, and that 2100 that you mentioned on the SAT I. For the SAT I, what you might want to try to do is pick your currently lowest section and just study a lot for that one, thus boosting your superscore.

Good luck, and I hope to see you join us here next year!
