I realize this is the Business section. I was looking for a better place to ask this, like the Computer Science section, but I didn't find one.

Since I'm interested in the IT-Business Hybrids (AIS, MIS) what certifications should I get to stand out, or at the very least help me get a job/job experience? I'm currently working in Food Service, not exactly an IT field.

A couple years ago I had a CCNA but didn't do anything with it. I got it fairly easy just out of High School. Is there anything I can get that would make me stand out or help me get some IT experience?

The Science section would be a better section to ask this. There are a lot of CS majors over there along with the traditional science majors like Biology and Chemistry.

As for the best certifications, you should be getting certifications that are high in demand in your area. I once read this article that said if you’re going to get certifications, you need to concentrate in a specific area for those certs or else you’ll run broke. A lot of these certifications can cost $500 dollars to take, let alone any training materials that it would cost to study for them. Therefore, I think it’s important that you pick certifications that are in high demand in your area by searching Monster under the skills section or IT jobs that interest you and decide what area you want to concentrate in like Networking, IT Repair, Database Management, Web Development, etc. From there, you can decide on what certifications you’ll need. If you got your CCNA while in HS then that’s really an achievement because that’s a hard exam to pass.

The typical certifications that people look for especially if you do broad IT work like a Systems Administrator, are CCNA, MSCE, A+, Network+, RedHat, Fedora, MSDST.
