after 7 long years on college confidential
i would like to share with you that all the
effort is worth it !!

yesterday my S '08 received his dream job offer
with one of the big 3 consulting firms
he will graduate in june and begin end of summer in chicago

it was a long and difficult interview period with
lots of highs and lows and conflicts with school
work.. missing classes to fly to interviews etc

my wife and i are so relieved
thanks to all at college confidential and sybbie
we will finally meet at graduation !!

Congratulations isacc!!! w000t!

Erm...so where is the party?

Congrats! What wonderful news!!! Is your son an econ major? Chicago is a great city to work in. My youngest is an '11 but I also have an older s- and there is nothing more satisfying than seeing them end up working in the dream job they always wanted.

That's great! It's really nice of people like you to check in and let us newbies know what happens to these kids at the other end of the process. Thanks!

So ,again, where is the party? :D

Very happy for your son isacc.

Congrats Isaac!

and he will have enough for a psych major also

it was almost 4 years since we gathered around the
computer to see if accepted ED ..
on tues he got a call late aft while he was in class
from a partner at the chicago firm...by the time he returned
call the partner left and unavailable...so all nite S and his
helicopter parents(i admit it) couldnt sleep..
noonish yesterday he got the call and the offer..whew

isaac,

Congratulations to your son . Great news.

After the Hanover winters, he can definitely handle Chicago. So I guess it is safe to say that his graduation gift could be furniture to help set up his new place.

I am soo looking forward to seeing you and ohmadre in june.

S

Did your son do any internships over the summers? If yes, what years? Because, when I read about u-grad summers - it seems like they are a necessity now - is it true? (I was hoping to have my s home during summers...) Is it a necessity junior year - or does it start sooner - after freshmen year?
I would love it if my s ends up in Chicago. It is a city going thru an economic boom and is a great place to live - whether in the suburbs traveling in on the train or in the city. It has so many perks - top schools, corp headquarters, major airport, the arts etc. I have visited it many times over the years and it keeps getting better. Congrats again!

Sybbie - going to have to find a time and place to meet!

Phase, Isacc can tell you better but one good thing about the D plan is that students can theoretically secure internships during non-summer months. But, of course, you will loose your son to a Hanover summer after his Sophomore year. Plan to take a vacation up there during that time or at least go during Sophomore Parents' weekend - its sooo nice in the area during the summer!

though he applied he didnt get any of the golden internships
but he did do one every year

first summer through a company called university of dreams
which you pay for an internship by day / camp by night setting
they found him an internship in a small marketing company in
chicago ...they live in a new high rise building in the loop
which is a dorm for 3 colleges during the year and rents out
to others during summer...on weekends they took supervised trips together
to sightsee etc..evenings they had guest speakers some nites
you pay some bucks for this program but it got him a good rec.
and his first taste of chicago no salary

he did lyon france for his overseas you take 3 courses
came back conversational fluent in french

he did an internship in ny which he found at the table top at D
on wall street for i believe a winter off term..paid

and this past summer he found an internship on his own for
two months in seattle as video gaming analyst ..Paid

also this last summer he did do the tuck bridge program
which of course was a help on his resume ..you pay
big bucks for that but they give some financial help..it is
a mini mba type program for undergrads..

No wonder your son received his dream offer! He has already had many extraordinary accomplishments and a variety of experiences. Thanks for listing his internships. I was thinking my son would resume his high school job this summer - mostly because I've missed seeing him and it would be nice to have him home - but am beginning to realize that isn't the best idea after all.
