It is December 1st, and I still need to apply to schools.

Hello Everyone,
I am currently freaking out due to the fact that I am approaching the regular decision deadlines, and have no idea where to apply. I want to major in environmental engineering, which most schools that offer engineering also offer environmental engineering. I have a 93 gpa and a 30 on the ACT with good E.C.s, I would really appreciate it if some of you on here could tell me some good schools with that major. Thank You!

It’s hard to give suggestions without more information: what location are you looking for? Urban or rural? East coast or west? How large of a school do you want? How much can you afford?

What’s your home state? How much, if any, financial aid will be required? Do you prefer public or private universities?

Here are the 68 ABET-accredited programs in environmental engineering:

http://main.abet.org/aps/Accreditedprogramsearch.aspx

You can begin here, but @TopTier’s question about how much aid your family needs, whether it should be need-based or merit-based, will determine where you can go.

I need to have a tuition of equal to or less than $30,000 per year.

@lgcollege‌: Is that <$30K only for tuition, or is it for all costs (tuition, room, board, books, fees, etc.)? The incremental difference could easily be $15+K annually.

I think I qualify for financial aid for alot of schools, but I would like to stay under $40,000 for all costs

In that case, your first place to check out is your state flagship to see if it offers EnvE (is that how we abbreviate it?). That also means that a lot of other OOS flagships and publics are going to be in play. The SUNYs come in around 32K OOS, and UMD-CP, Pitt, and Penn State for instance come in at around 45K, 43K, and 48K. Both Pitt and UMD might be interested in giving you a little merit to bring you inside 40K (PSU will not). The UCalifornias will not offer you any aid of any kind and will cost you around 53K; so for UColorado, although they might give you 5K. We really need you to offer us some regions we can rule out or in.

Why do you think you would qualify for a lot of FA if your family can pay $40k per year

I am not stuck to one region, but would prefer to stay east coast and an undergraduate enrollment of >10,000

I would have to take out loans to pay for whatever they cant pay

I think we’ve given you a good place to start, then: public flagships to check out (Delaware, UConn, etc.), and then smaller unis that offer EnvE can be found on the ABET list I gave you (Lehigh, Clarkson, etc.). Pull a list together and run the net price calculators; throw out the ones you cannot afford and voila!
