it is possible to lie

is it possible to lie on your college app and not get caught ? like about your xtracurriculars and stuff ? like can they actually check and see wat you have and havent done?

**by the way i havent lied lol. im still junior but just wondering

My brother’s friend lied that his cousin died in Hurricane Katrina, and was accepted into Cornell. I mean honestly, they don’t have a foolproof way of proving him wrong. But in most cases, lying isn’t worth it; you will get immediately expelled/rejected once you are caught. And yes, they do check most things. You can even be fined and/or jailed.

some people do it and get away with it -_-
its soo dumb and it makes me cringe be/c im such an honest person.
if a person has integrity they wouldnt do it… unfortunately college admissions is turning into a ****ing game that many students are trying to outsmart.

Couldn’t live with myself getting in by lying.

I refuse to do it.

there are even some incidents of people having others write their damn essays… sigh
i think this whole higher education thing needs to be reformed

It depends on what you lie about. The more ambitious the lie, the more likely it will be verified and caught.

Well, IMO, the bolder the lie, the truer it seems.

Remember Hitler’s promise that he wouldn’t take any more land after the Anschluss, and how everyone believed him?

Yes, I was twenty years old when he said that, and I still believed him!

Sigh.
10tsar

I promise you that claiming you won an international competition will be verified before they verify a school club membership.

Hindsight is twenty-twenty. At the time, Hitler’s promise DIDN’T seem that bold to a lot of people. It was certainly less bold than “I want to take over all of Europe/the world.”

But yes, they can–and do–check. Stanford audits a small percentage of accepted students; if it’s a major competition they will definitely check. A lot of people “embellish,” though, and don’t get caught, which is frustrating.

Google “Adam Wheeler”
