hey all, earlier in the year i was asking whether we could make changes to the commonapp after it has been submitted to the schools and was told this was not possible. however, after reading through the instructions when logged in to the commonapp site, there is a section called application versions which would allow changes to be made. i hope this is useful though it is a bit late.

I did this. I noticed in my first bunch of apps that I had 2 typos. I corrected them on the other application versions and sent that version in.....

Wow I didn't know this! Thanks!

This helps for apps you have not sent in, but remember you cannot change an app after it has been submitted.

But if you made an error or have additional information to add and have already submitted the application, go ahead and send in a correction by email, fax and/or regular mail. My son received an award after submitting the application and sent an email to the school. The admin officer thanked him and said it would be added to his application. I'm sure this applies to any other material change you need to make.

It also changes your ID number, so it may screw up the matching of your recommendation letters and supplementary materials (like research or cd's or art portfolios) if you aren't careful.

Timatom, how would you take care of that?

All the recommendation letters were already sent, but I made a few changes on the Common App since, is there any way to make sure everything gets matched correctly?

That's very true

you gotta download the school forms in another version all over again or your ID number will cause huge confusion.

I know you are asking tima, but I would suggest writing an email to the admission office to explain the situation
you may need to report your different ID numbers to them as well

I didn't have a problem with this. They use your name and school and ss # to collate all the material that comes in, so don't worry about it. My school doesn't even use the common app letters of rec, they have their own and schools are fine with that.
