@llpitch: dude! its not all about test scores... NO ONE from my school that got into MIT this year had a 2250+ K?and they didn't have perfect SAT2 s either (they did have 4x usamo+mop and 2nd place ISEF)

@ OP
but do you have EC other than orchestra?
math? science?
awards?
EC and things you write about are VERY important
those test scores obviously won't get you in. but they definitely won't keep you out either
but i would recommend retaking both SAT 2s though
they are sort of low for MIT, especially considering you don't really have the ECs to make up for it.
everyone that takes SAT 2 chem from my school that i know score of have 750+ and at least half of them have 800
and same goes for math

you don't need one for english lit for MIT , they won't see it. there is no space on the app to put it anyways, unless its for other schools that require 3

(i wish MIT gives the score range for those that got rejected and the admit rate for the different SAT2s scores too)

Heck, I scored 800 and that was only 90%. Given the same kids that take the IIs are not the kids taking the SAT I, but 1/10 is still a multitude of kids. They really need to make the test harder, or take away that generous curve.

The middle 50% for SAT subject test in science is 700 to 800 at MIT so how is anyone in this forum gonna say this girl has a low score with a 740? every one of the reasoning test scores is well in the range so shut up about that too people. honestly, MIT looks down on retaking it when every score is in their ranges, and yours are. may I suggest taking math level 1 for the subject test? it's easier and MIT treats it the same (trust). I got 780 on level 1 while 740 on level 2. don't let the percentiles deceive you. different people take level 1 and level 2. 780 on level 1 is 99th percentile but i still say it was easier than getting 740 on level 2 which is 75th. other schools? RPI (that's where I'm going - I got waitlisted at MIT), or maybe a state school for lots of free money and honors program opportunities since you're so qualified.

well i think we meant, looking at her other stats, and EC and all that stuff
she should considered try getting higher SAT2s to increase her chances (She is already retaking SAT 1)

Just cuz it's in the middle 50%, the acceptance rate is STILL VERY LOW, probably even lower for people on the lower end
range from 700 to 800.. so more than 25% percent of the class had 800...and many more who had 800 still got rejected.

From what I recall, MIT looks at your scores as:

Math
Science

And that's it! They don't care what science one you took or what math one you took.

Be careful about taking the Math IC. IMO, and from general consensus of a whole lot of math savy kids on CC, take Math IIC as it is easier. You might want to make sure to brush up on all the concepts though.

Don't worry about SAT scores too much. A lot of people try to make getting into MIT hard by pointing at test scores. There are massive gains you can make in the other areas that matter a lot more. In particular, your 7-ish years (7 I believe right?) of Indian classical dance is very impressive. Just make sure not to submit an average application by any standards. Everyone who applies is generally already very good. So you just have to make yourself that much better than everyone else.

Also you might want to start looking in on more Science Math EC's. Seriously, your EC's indicate a lot about what school you might enjoy.

thanks for the suggestions..but like i graduate next year so i don't know how much i can improve on my extracurriculars but yea...it might not even matter if i do...can u put stuff that u are going to do for your senior year on your apps? i know like its one year..but does it help at all?
