It seems like a crap shoot to me

BU is my frist choice like many others here, and ive been looking over some of the chances threads, and it really seems to be luck. Some people that say they have similar stats to mine get in just fine, and then others that have much better stats then mine dont get in. GAH.

thats why i'm kinda confused about applying. I think I will aplly and see what happens. There's nothing worse than not knowing is there?

BU is a HUGE University. They pull people from all over the world, from every social class, from every background. Each year they have a profile to hit - the number of students with ____ stats, from ____ region with ____ special things about them. True, there are certain students that will get in no problem (the 4.0 gpa w. 2400 SAT & 34 ACT w. amazing recs, tons of activities etc - you know the person) but I have seen 2400 students not get in because they didn't have anything else going for them.

The key is to be well rounded, know your strengths and weaknesses, and truely knowing why you want to come here. The next step is to be able to effectively communicate that to the admissions board that reviews your application - do something to make yourself stand out from the thousands of others that are just like you.

Put yourself in their place and try to think what they're looking for and play to that as a strength.
