It seems like everyone takes at least three subject tests.

Do you have to? As far as I know none of the schools I'm looking at require or recommend more than two. I already took Math 2 (790) and US History (780) and uh, I'd really rather not take another one. I haven't taken Bio since sophomore year, when I hated it, and I'm positive I wouldn't be prepared for Chemistry, though I could MAYBE self-study and catch myself up on some stuff. I'm awful at Latin; and all other languages, world history and physics are out of the question since I haven't actually taken them. Which leaves Literature, which is like...Supposed to be hard!

So. Would having only two subject tests look strange? I feel like if not, there's no way another one could HELP me much, given my scores on the other two and my 2400 on the SAT I...whatever I got on a third subject test would just bring me down a little I'm sure, no matter how much I studied. Plus there's the monetary investment, and the time investment, SO.

Am I okay with my two tests for schools like Swarthmore, Wesleyan, U Chicago? Or should I suck it up, buy a Bio prep book, and try to actually remember what mitochondria are?

Well, it helps if you do three. If a school only wants two, they’ll pick the two you did best in. If you don’t want to do it, it’s okay. However, if you have the time, you have the chance. :)

Umm, 2400 SAT+ the two SAT IIs you have puts you at the top of the applicant pool for the three schools you mentioned. You are FINE!!!

agreed. you’re fine! congrats on the perfect score! :D

Oops, I forgot to check this! Thanks very much for the responses. I did have a vague plan to take a third SAT II, somehow, but now I’m thinking I won’t if it won’t help me. :)

I was wondering: suppose a really selective college wants only 2 SAT II test scores. If I’ve good scores on them both, would having a 3rd or 4th SAT II subject score boost my chances of getting accepted? Or would the college only consider my best 2 scores?

I’m only taking two, Math II and Physics, got a 2340 on SAT. Nice job on your perfect score!!

That’s a good question, slakedlime, if the college only considers the best two scores then there’s definitely no point to me taking another test, because I’ll almost surely get a lower score on the third one…though that’s actually a pretty persuasive argument against taking another one no matter what the college does, haha.

The only problem is that I never sent my four free score reports because I didn’t think I was done with SAT testing…but another subject test will cost me thirty dollars, anyways, so I guess I’m not losing that much. :/

and congrats to you too, Biggie_Smalls! Where are you applying?
