@lilmom , that’s good to know! Thanks. I’m really hopeful this will be contained by early fall, too.
I can’t recall if this was posted here already but I don’t think so - the CDC has issued a level 2 alert - special precautions for high-risk travelers for Italy. It says, among other things, “Older adults and those with chronic medical conditions should consider postponing nonessential travel.”

I wonder what age is considered “older” these days?
@mom60 Our 3 sons are flying this week (2 together and all within the US). Even though not international, DH is stressed. News reports today talk expected increase in the US.
“The Italian outbreak has been traced to a 38-year-old man who sought treatment at a hospital in Codogno, near Milan, on Feb. 18, where he infected dozens of patients and medical staff. He had not been to China recently and how he became infected remains a mystery.”

IMO the stand out is the 50-59. I would bet this is about the age of many world travelers. Heck, I have a 50 yr old I know who is pregnant. It doesn’t seem old LOL. It looks like it all goes to carp at 50.
Yesterday the CDC raised the warning level for travel to Italy to level 3 “CDC recommends that travelers avoid all nonessential travel to Italy” due to Coronavirus.
https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices/warning/coronavirus-italy
Our planned trip is 3 months away and includes flying to Athens, 5 days in Greece, then 7 nights in Italy … who knows if things will be better before then. Continuing to book refundable/cancelable lodging but keeping in mind we may need to cancel.
Press Conference: Govt just raised State Level warning to Level 4.
@doschicos I heard that (didn’t watch) but I’m confused about what Level 4 is? Are State Dept. levels different than CDC levels which is what I was citing?
It sounds like maybe only part of Italy is Level 4. Level for is Do Not Travel. I suspect more details will come out but haven’t seen them yet.
@CAtransplant - the State Dept Levels are different than the CDC. Level 4 from the state dept. = do not travel. That said, it’s not been updated on the state department site: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/italy-travel-advisory.html
Level 4 for only certain parts of Italy.

Due to Covid the dream Italy trip didn’t happen for 60 and not for 61 but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for 62!
I’m starting to look at plane tickets for Oct 2022. I’m thinking fly into Milan and out of Florence. I’d concentrate on northern Italy and Tuscany and Umbria. At least that is what I’m thinking.
Anyone gone this year or planning for next year?
I went to Italy in October. I had a great time. I had to show vax proof and mask indoor.
I would fly into Milan or Rome and take a train to your final destination. It’s not efficient to do any transfer flight within Italy. I have taken train from Milan to Florence, very easy. Whereas when I have tried to take a flight from Milan to Florence, plenty of delays.
I have to say it was so interesting to read the last couple dozen posts on this thread from
February 2020….
Because nothing happened between 2020 to 2021.
My point was the last couple dozen threads talking about Corona Virus (not yet really known as Covid) just as things were starting to happen. And “hoping” things would be under control in a matter of a few months… it’s interesting to read
Agreed! A snapshot of the past frozen in time.
We have plans to go in May, 2022. Rescheduled twice. Things could change of course, and prepared for that. Flying into Milan - Venice - Florence - Rome. It’s hard to get too excited, especially with wearing masks. But it IS Italy!
Our family is planning to go in late May/early June to Florence and Rome; we are flying in to and out of Florence. I am hoping that it goes forward as planned, but who knows? A friend is in Milan/Northern Italy this week, and I will speak with him when he gets back about (potential) travel issues.
I just spent the first week of November in Florence. I had to show my vaccination card at every museum and restaurant. I was visiting a relative studying there for the semester. The city was not crowded but still lively.
