Hello all....
I'm here to ask for some info about one of the seemingly most elusive departments in the country...Ithaca College. I've been intrigued by the program for years but don't know anybody enrolled there and have been struggling to find out some of the strengths and weaknesses. So, if you had to list some of what you believe to be the pros and cons about the musical theatre department that would be great. Things such as what their main focus is (is it a predominantly acting, singing or dance program), how big the classes are, the performance opportunities, the flexibility of dabbling in other subjects whether they be liberal arts or other performance electives, the success of the alumni, etc. Any details, however minute, would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Senior frantically awaiting an acceptance SOMEWHERE

Brendan, perhaps you could PM actor465 or sporti2005 who I believe are both current Ithaca students. You might also want to read the Ithaca-specific forum listed at the top of the MT forum page. Good luck!

BrendanN,
Not to sound harsh but everything you want to know about is on the board somewhere. Use the search function. It might take you a half hour.

definitely post in the ithaca-specific forum.

if you have MT-specific questions, i might be able to help you a little, but you'd be better off asking actor465. he's an MT, i'm not. i am in some MT classes by permission, though.

if you have questions about the school or general questions about the MT program, definitely IM me. Sporti2005 is my AIM screen name.

Yeah, I'm sure you can find the answer to most of the questions somewhere on the site, but if you want to ask me personally, PM me or send me and IM at actor465! I'd love to talk to you and tell you all about Ithaca. Have you auditioned?

For what it is worth, we met a young man who graduated from the MT program at Ithaca and came here to perform in an equity show. He told us that the MT program values and emphasizes acting first, singing second, and dance third. In their material, it appears that acting and singing are equal and that dance is somewhat secondary. They do not offer as many advanced levels of dance as some of the other schools. The acting seems very strong. The music is surely good, because they have a separate music department with a great reputation. I believe they lean toward being more like a conservatory with fewer liberal arts courses taken than at some universities for MT programs.
