I've narrowed my choice down to these two schools, and I need help deciding which one to go too. I'm pretty sure I'm going to try and transfer somewhere else after freshman year, so I was wondering which school has the better reputation, which one would give me more of an edge? It seems to me that a private school would automatically be better, but I've heard that New Paltz's reputation has really shot up over the past couple years. So, can anyone help? Thanks :)

Are you in-state? Does money matter?

What do you want to study?

I'm in-state. Ithaca is a little more expensive with a couple thousand in loans (but Ithaca has given me a LOT more aid), so money isn't such a big issue.

I want to do something with math, science, and art. Maybe architecture or something around that. Maybe engineering. Neither Ithaca or New Paltz really has the majors I want to try out, which is why I'm probably going to transfer.

These two schools are very different in terms of the student body....have you visited them?
I know people who have gone to both. Ithaca is more homogeneous. New Paltz is more diverse. New Paltz attracts more of an artsy group who celebrate their differences. It is a liberal school by a hippie town. Ithaca, being near Cornell, tends to be more conservative.
It really depends on what you are looking for.
Why are you not considering a school that has what you are looking for major wise instead of planning to transfer?
