Would love to hear how students and parents feel about Ithaca - specificaly sciences, but any information about campus life? college town? how are the profs? are they available to the students? Anything would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello there!

I’m a senior studying journalism/legal studies at Ithaca College and am extremely happy with my last three years here at IC. It wasn’t my first choice, but I went because I received an incredible scholarship, and I don’t regret that choice at all. I have really forged my own path, and IC was very accommodating to that. I have made incredible friendships, made connections with alumni that are promising for post-graduation and I’m more ready than ever for the real world.

To answer your questions in order… I am not in the sciences, but one of my best friends is studying Biology here, and she loves it. Not only does she have great professors and classes, but she has received hands on research opportunities. She has worked in Ithaca with professors two summers in a row (and was paid!) on real research that they were conducting.

Campus life is great–it’s small enough that you randomly run into friends a lot, but big enough that I’m still meeting new people three years later. It is built on a hill though, so be prepared for stairs! Also, they have a great program that all freshman participate in called the First Year Experience–it basically means there are a ton of free BBQs, events and speakers for freshman that help them to get acclimated to college life.

Professors here are really fabulous. They actually care about us succeeding and they have attendance policies–meaning you can’t skip twice a week unnoticed. EVERY professor has office hours, and they’re required to do them. Also, every student is guaranteed a time to meet with their assigned advisor before class selection each term.

Hope this helps!
