So I got a 33 on my ACT and my GPA is a 3.69 and it's my last year of highschool and i really think i should be working on getting my gpa up. now i cant decide weather i should take AP english or advanced english (at my school , we have AP, advnced, and general). I want my application to look like i challenged myself with AP's (i have other AP's but one more wouldnt hurt, right?) , but i also want to workon my gpa a lot! and i feel like in AP wnglish, i'll get a B and i cant afford that grade with this being my last year and all...what'd you guys think?

I’d go with AP and work your ass off. First, getting an A isn’t impossible in ANY AP class. Plus, colleges care more about you challenging yourself than taking classes you KNOW you can get A’s in. They almost sound like broken records at the admissions sessions. . .

“We’d rather see you get A’s and a few B’s in the toughest courses, than all A’s in easier courses.”

Something like that. While advanced English might not be the easiest course at your school, it doesn’t seem to be the hardest.

Id go with AP as well. That will definitely show diversity in your courses and shows how you challenge yourself. If you school only had advanced then you should go with that but seeing as you do have an AP level course, then go for it! good luck

My personal opinion is that you should go ahead and challenge yourself by taking the AP class. (Since you seem to be intent on doing just that)
Ultimately, though, it’s your own decision…only you really know what you are capable of, especially in this situation.

A 3.6? I had a weighted 3.6 with scores around that range and I was getting offered full merit scholarships at places. Honestly, there is nothing wrong with that, and I don’t think you should be singularly focused on raising that GPA…higher is always better, but you have a very solid GPA. Don’t worry – take the AP class and challenge yourself.

At this point you should be taking classes to bolster your learning and preparing you for college work. That should be your true goal because plenty of schools will like your stats. College requires a great deal of writing (unless you’re in engineering) and you’ll need a good english prep course.

Definitely take the APs. They will look good on your transcript and colleges love to see people who take challenging courses.

Are you good at writing? My girlfriend is taking AP English Lit and she tells me the AP exam is all writing essays. I think great AP scores probably look really good for college (perhaps you can get credit, not to say that’s what it’s all about).

In any case, the fact is it IS better to get Bs in an AP class than As in an honors or regular class, regardless of whether it brings your GPA up or not.
