it's a pain in the neck and i'm sorry

hey, sorry but i'll just get to the point. so i'm a junior in CA, who is curious about my chances. it's been a rough last 2 years, with my mom having to move away and my granmother being really sick (both in my essay) so in anycase, here's my profile:

[ *] ACT Composite: 33
[ *] SAT IIs: Span: 770 Lit: 710
[ *] AP's: Span: 5 Eng: 4 US Hist: 3
[ *] UC GPA: 3.83(to give you an idea of how hard my courses were, i got a 3 out of a possible 4 rating on difficulty that my school has)
[ *] ECs listed on app: football, track, clubs
[ *] Job/Work Experience: did finances for a family friend's company (receipt stuff) and also had a job at a toy store lol
[ *] Essays (subject and responses): already started so they should be good
[ *] Teacher Recs: better than great
[ *] Counselor Rec: great
[ *] School Type: Private, does not rank
[ *] Ethnicity: Hispanic
[ *] Gender:M
[ *] 2 summer courses at a local comm. college- pysch and creative writing, both got A's.
* also got 4 awards at our honors convocation, but not sure that means much really.

thanks for the help

Your hispanic..Underrepresented minority (such status is a HUGE, HUGE boost for UCLA)..you should get in, 100 % with those stats. Also, UCLA is very big on people who have suffered HARDSHIPS such as yours.

good luck!

not a huge boost at ucla at all actually (being hispanic), but i think ur in next year regardless

You look pretty strong as it is so I would say you're on the right track to getting in.

kevinre:

UCLA: Match

i n

no letters of rec for the uc system

UC GPA is actually 3.86 sorry, my mistake.

actually i'm just dumb. it's a 3.81 sorry disregard the last post i made.

r30028, I thought there were rec's for transfers. Not sure though, but you're definitely right about that for freshmen.

yea i dont know about transfers, i was talking about freshman because i think hes a junior in hs

No recs for transfers either.

i'm curious and you all strike me as people who know the ucla system better than i (i know nothing hah), does ucla look more at gpa whereas an sc looks more at test scores?

(my friend just got rejected with 2170 sat's, and a 3.9 uc gpa)

by sc do u mean usc?...they're both supposed to be holistic but idk...i got into ucla with really low scores, a good uc gpa, lots of ecs and a kickbutt essay (on hardship)..i'm also 5 diff races, so that may have helped...but i'd say you'd get in, just keep up on being well rounded.

yeah usc. thanks for the input everyone.

what was your gpa gbv13? if you don't mind me asking

Agreed. You are a pain in the neck. Now, go massage mine, *****!

does being a minority help in the UCLA admissions process, or does it do nothing

it does nothing

The UC system is prohibited from considering race or ethnicity in admissions. They do give extra points for being economically disadvantaged or being from a low-performing high school. Here is a list of the comprehensive review factors, and they are considered in the order given: University of California - Admissions

UCs still have AA going? I thought that was dropped a while ago.

EDIT: Poster above beat me to it.

Nevertheless, you do have a chance at UCLA.
