Hey guys, I'm planning to apply to SUNY Stony Brook. I browsed their website and found their annual cost of attendance to be quite affordable, as compared to the other unis. Its below $30k, which sounds too good to be true. I just want confirmation of this fact from a prospective applicant or a previous admit. Is anybody applying to any of the SUNYs? Is their COA really that low?

a friend of mine did apply to one of the SUNYs last year. they do have scholarships for exceptional students, but i don’t think their COA is that low…

SUNY Buffalo’s COA is 23k
Same with Minnesota

EDIT: Posted at the wrong thread …

@AniruddhC, are you absolutely positive? This cost includes room, board, and food, right?

Check out SUNY Geneseo - Avg GPA 94, SAT 1340 - considered the honors college of SUNY.

[SUNY Geneseo | SUNY Geneseo](http://www.geneseo.edu)

Costs - $22,369 for international students

Kiplinger ranks Geneseo #7 Best value for Instate Students #2 Best Value for Out of State Students. “This small honors school in western New York vies with Binghamton University for best out-of-state value. Its total cost for out-of-staters comes in at $25,803, a bit lower than Binghamton’s, and the admission rate is a competitive 35%. Incoming freshmen keep the brainiac quotient high at Geneseo: SAT scores are among the best on our list.”

Geneseograd, how would you compare Geneseo with Colgate and Vassar in ranking?

Geneseo on their Admissions page refers to a quote from a July 25, 2010 NY Times article:

“Maybe in good times you didn’t think twice about spending $50,000 a year for Lehigh or Colgate instead of $20,000 for comparable educations at Binghamton or Geneseo, but that has never been an option for people of limited means, and increasingly it’s not an option for many of the affluent, either.”

If money is not an option then yeah consider the private but honestly, I received a great education at Geneseo, graduated with no debt and then attended NYU for grad school. I just don’t believe in accumulating a lot of debt as an undergrad if you intend to go to graduate school. That being said Colgate and Vassar are both great schools.

In terms of comparing rankings that is difficult because Colgate and Vassar are both private colleges and depending on the ranking i.e. US News, Kiplinger etc. Geneseo is usually ranked separately from these colleges.

Here is a link to Geneseo’s current standing in terms of the latest rankings:

Geneseograd, thanks for the info. it was really helpful.
I’m considering geneseo very strongly now, esp since their annual COA is so low. its an affordable safety!

Even Minnesota/Drexel are good financial safeties.

UMinn is awesome!

@ani Really? I saw UMinn ranked in one category only…worst professors haha… :p

@confidential2015- Well I don’t know about the professors but if you wanna do engineering UMN at TC is awesome. I’ve appied for fall and should make it.

Where all have you appied?
And u minn costs arnd 25k

tution Is 16k.

@rockuppl Isn’t 25k a lot? I thought UMinn charged in-state tuition and fees to everyone. Isn’t that true?
