We’ve appealed the financial aid decision at a great school and are waiting to hear.

An interesting tidbit…I spoke with my son’s placement advisor today and we started talking about the economy. He said something very interesting about financial aid yields this year. At the “top” schools anyway, financial aid yield has been 90% vs. 70% in a “typical” year.

It will be very difficult to win an appeal when they will be so over budget.

Keylyme:
Thanks for the post about son trying Exeter. That’s exactly what we are thinking right now. That he should try it and see what happens but with a good commitment for at least the first semester if not year.

We had a long talk last night and it seems his biggest concern was leaving his friends at his current school and would he make new ones at BS. We watched the video “A day in the life at Exeter” on their website and it showed kids talking about how when they came to Exeter they had similar concerns but made lots of friends in the dorms. He seemed to absorb that info well.

We’ll see… we have to mail it tomorrow!

I’m going to Andover. I was deciding between it and Groton.

Principal, don’t choose Milton. It’s ridiculous to pass up Andover, Exeter, and Deerfield fo Milton.

well, if principal likes milton a lot more and feels he’ll do better there…
i mean, it’s his decision.

I don’t see how it’s ridiculous at all? I’m sure kids there will say the exact opposite.

if PPV likes Milton the best, why shouldn’t he go? We’re talking about a few small differences between the best schools in America, here! No need to trash #8 because he likes it more than #1.

it’s PPV’s own choice. if he’d be miserable at andover but happy at milton, then he’ll do better there.

^Thanks for the support! First of all, I don’t even know why I applied to Deerfield. Someone suggested it, and I was pressured for that one… I already declined them, however great they are. As for Andover/Exeter, well… Milton has GREAT matriculation and best of all I can research with Harvard/MIT profs. There are few schools who have such an opportunity to research with profs from the most prestigious university in the world. The campus is far better. I fit in better… I have still not totally tossed the others out, but it is in NO WAY ridiculous.

Not saying the other schools are not good. For me, I liked Milton. During the application process I had always liked it (along with my other top choices, Exeter and Andover at that time). I do not even know what your basis for that is, I mean if it was something like choosing Peddie over Exeter (no offense to Peddie, first non top tier school I could think of… and they rejected me) you can say that on the basis of prestige, but I think Milton fits me better.

benevolent4them- WOOOOOOOOOOAHHH; hold up.

Helllooo, Milton is JUST as great of a school as Andover/Exeter/Deerfield

Who told you Milton isn’t as good?

I think that your comment was slightly biased, and yeah, if ppv likes it, why shouldn’t he go?

I don’t think he thinks it is any worse. I doubt it is any less prestigious either… He’s just surprised.

so where has everyone decided to go?

Hah yeahh, but still, calling it “ridiculous to pass up” those schools in comparison to Milton is still a little harsh.

OK, do these things need to be received in the offices by Friday 4/10th? Reading the exeter one it appears that way… so are you guys mailing yours tomorrow?

Will they give away your spot if they don’t have it in hand by Friday?

But isn’t milton like 50 50 day students boarders. Doesn’t make a kinda weird community. Just my opinion here.

Everyone, those who go there and those who do not, said that is what makes Milton unique… And it helps in a GOOD way.

Decision: Andover is the winner.

haha, I see you chose that over choate. My current finalists (with heavy parental influence) is Exeter, Andover, and Milton.

Not fun, PPV, but I say you will choose Milton eventually.
