I carry a harajuku lovers (sturdy or at least I thought so) messenger bag. Today, I stuffed it with two spiral notebooks, a paperback and .... an organic chemistry textbook. When I arrived home at the end of the day, I found out that the handle/shoulderstrap is at the point of entirely ripping off the bag, so I can't carry anything in it anymore because the strap is no longer, well, a strap :O

If you like to carry textbooks to school like I do, which bag do you use? I apparently need the maximum sturdiness that comes in a bookbag :/ Should I continue with messager bags or just bookbags?

I think book bags tend to be sturdier but I haven’t had a lot of messenger bags, so I could have gotten the wrong impression. But they’re definitely sturdy if you get a half decent brand and are better for your back anyway, so if you are carrying a heavy chem book I might consider switching over if you don’t think it would kill you. XD

I always carry a backpack with heavier items like textbooks. If I’m just carrying a laptop to the library or something I’ll use my messenger bag, but I think they are less sturdy than backpacks. Plus messenger bags are worse on you than backpacks.

But honestly, if it feels better to carry a messenger bag, carry one. Just get a very nice, sturdier one, which will cost you more.

Had the same backpack for almost 10 years and it held up perfectly fine. Had a messenger bag and it ripped after two months, plus gave me back and knee problems because of the uneven weight.

Honestly, just get a nice sturdy Jansport backpack or something with a lifetime warranty. Your back and bank account will thank you later!

I had used Jansport backpacks and messenger bags and they would each each last for 3-4 years. I usually carried a textbook or two and a notebook or two as well.

Take that bag back and demand your money back. It hasn’t been that long and it shouldn’t have ripped. Those bags are crazy expensive, you should be able to count on quality at that kind of price.

Personally I carry my books. I keep pens, wallet, keys, etc in a clutch that goes around my wrist. I have a laptop bag, too, but I never bring it anywhere.

I used to have to get a new backpack every year buying those 20-30 dollar ones and they’d be trashed by the end of the year. Finally freshman year of high school I convinced my parents to buy me a decent jansport one, probably ~50 bucks. I’m a freshman in college now and still using the same one.

Jansport makes good stuff, worth the money IMO.
