After,

45 schools on the original list
14 tours in the last 1 1/2 years
6 applications
3 admits
1 wait-list
2 rejections

it's done.

Come September son2 will be attending USC - Marshall School of Business as a member of the Business & Cinematic Arts cohort.

Fight on!

It's good to finally know where I'll be sending checks for the next four years.

Dad needs a drink.

I am with you vinceh! Mine was first born though so I was new to the whole process! So glad I have a year and a half until I start again! Congrats!

Yay!!! Congrats!! I’ll have a drink too!

Drinks(s)…just done with decisions for TWO seniors…so stressful…haha

Fight on!

megga congrats to all new Trojan Families!

Congratulations!!!

At the risk of dating myself I’ll quote the Grateful Dead, “What a long strange trip it’s been”. Having been through the process with his older brother and a handful of nieces and nephews, I learned a long time ago that the less I said the more interesting the process was to watch (Please Note, I said more interesting not more fun).

My wife and I could have told you last October after we’d visited SC that son2 had made his decision. It just took him a lot longer to realize it. Whenever he’d talk about his options, there were always reasons why he should go to USC and always excuses why he should make another choice.

Time to order a flag from the bookstore; on football Saturdays the garage is starting to look like the plaza at the UN.

Great original post! Here are my D’s stats. Soph spring. “regular” family vacation but “drove” 5 campuses in the area. Jr. Fall first “real” visits. 3 school visits/tours in an 800 mile triangle drive, culminated by FB game at Dad’s alma mater, and perfunctory campus visit. Jr. Spring west coast swing 4 campus visits/tours. Fall Sr. yr. east coast swing 4 more schools. Numerous local area schools eliminated with or without visit. 9 applications. 7 admits 1 rejection 1 wait list. Torn between better schol at one, and USC. It’s USC’s Marshall school with BA major, and likely music industry minor. D is thrilled. USC was the dream school all along. And as with the o.p. I now know where the checks go. Indeed I need a drink too…but due to some whacky medication that I don’t complete until June…I will live my life vicariously through the o.p’s drinking for now.

Wow, love this thread! It’s exciting to read about all the happy decisions.

Here’s S2’s journey:

Toured 20 schools including trip Spring jr year to the Midwest and east.

Final list was 14 universities (only 6 were schools he’d toured).

At last minute changed major, threw out half the schools from “final” list and redrew new final list in November!

Applied to 13 schools including 3 UCs he’d never visited at all and 6 specialty programs that required massive extra supplements/essays/project/portfolios you name it.

Accepted to 11 schools, rejected at 2, and admitted to all 6 special application majors, including USC SCA and USC BFA School of Theatre (woot!).

Final drum roll decision… USC SoT!! You would think this was a slam dunk since his bro, S1, is a proud USC junior. But no. He came to this decision on his own for all the right reasons. S2 is SO SO happy.

And of course, so are we. We really really love this school and are so excited S2 gets to attend. For those parents new to USC, I think you’ll be amazed at how it exceeds expectations. :)

MitchK I’m glad my drinking could be of, umm, service. ;)

madbean, thanks for the insights. We’re all excited that he’s excited; after struggling to get him to even look at housing options at his other acceptances he filled out his housing app unprompted within ten minutes of submitting the enrollment deposit. That’s how we all knew that in his mind he’d found his place. Though I have to say, you must have a stronger “constitution” than I do, there is no way I could have survived 13 applications and watching him juggle double digit acceptances. I would have spontaneously combusted.

Our son had a list of 11 schools. We visited eight universities from the east coast, midwest and the west coast. Final list was down to five. With all his fall semester class work, extracurriculars, and outside activities, five was a hard push to get completed.

In the end, he was accepted at three universities and denied at two.

I agree with VinceH that I can’t imagine trying to get 11 apps completed and submitted. My son’s school does not use the online document submission system so all the rec letters and counselors reports had to be separately prepared for each school. It was like herding cats trying to ensure all faculty rec letters and counselor reports ended up at the right school. aI will proudly admit that I did go for an alcoholic beverage once all the paper work was submitted.

Congrats to all the the students and the application and acceptance weary parents!
