It's early, but what the heck- I will chance back

I am new and was wondering on where I currently stand. I'm an incoming junior looking to get into a pre-med or science path in college. I would like to go to Brown, JHU, Cornell, Duke or Dartmouth. IF you can chance me to see if i'm "in the money" and give recommendations on colleges or any things i should do extra, I would greatly appreciate it!

•SAT I: Not taken,tutor says I should have no problem get a 2250+.
•ACT: Not taken
•SAT II: 770 Chem and 720 Biology (going to retake) will take U.S, Lit, Physics next year and maybe Math 2
•Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0 (4.26 weighted have only taken one AP so far)
•Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top 5% at least (school doesnt rank)
•AP (place score in parenthesis): World History (3) =(. Getting it rescored thought I had a 5.
•Junior Year Course Load: AP Physics B, AP U.S History, AP Lang. and comp., AP Psych, self study AP US gov, Spanish Honors 4 (level before AP SPANISH), Pre-calc through a college (due to schedule error unable to take AP Calc AB)
•Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): I will be working on a very good project in chemistry/physics/engineering at a highly regarded lab. Will enter Intel and Siemens in 12th grade. Have already won some regional awards (1st place) in research competitions. Also working with a research team, should be published in research journal by end of junior year.
Subjective:
•Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Will start NHS in 11th, Astronomy club (president), FDA (probable founder/president), Tech. Club (hopefully vice pres.), Math Team (blehh I hate it...) I might do track. Part of BBYO (its a Jewish organization that does volunteer stuff and is really fun). We don't have many science clubs...

•Job/Work Experience: none. Hopefully one soon.
•Volunteer/Community service: Hospital (100+ hours so far), help out seniors with Alzheimers and kids with Autism(100+ by end of summer) hopefully 500 hours total by application time. Shadow doctors, etc.
•Summer Activities: Columbia summer high school program
•Essays: Not sure, probably about my research
•Teacher Recommendation: My chem teacher loves me and offered to write it for me
•Counselor Rec:Hopefully good she likes me
•Additional Rec: Probably my mentor.
Other
•State (if domestic applicant): NY
•Country (if international applicant): USA
•School Type: Public. Large (550 kids in class) (very competitive, 25+ went to ivies (mainly Cornell))
•Ethnicity: White, Jewish.
•Gender: Male
•Income Bracket: $120,000 or so
•Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Research, Jewish? (probably not)

Well, that is about it. I have taken all honors but math in 10th grade due to schedule problems. Math is probably my weakest subject, is it important to take math level 2 or should I focus on other sat2s? Leave URL ill help you best I can. Thanks.

You’re so early! Relax (hard to do when you’re a junior, I know). I mean you’re definitely on the right track which is good, but junior year brings a lot of unexpected surprises (this can be a good thing)

Math is my weak point too, so don’t focus on a math SAT 2 unless you really want to. It’s not worth it. Focus on the SAT I’s for starters, and don’t always assume you’ll get a 2250+ - just too many variables (curve, test day, experimental section freak-outs). Just start early with the real test (maybe even January) so you get accustomed to “the real thing.”

My advice to you is to really do things you LIKE to do, not just things that look good. Focus on your passion, and the reward will definitely come.

Thanks for the reply. I know that there are factors with SAT so who knows, hopefully I do well =). Next year will be a fun year, that’s for sure…

Very good chances in those, especially considering that you are so proactive so early on.

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1181846-please-chance-me-some-my-dream-colleges-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

Thanks for the reply, and I chance you back.

I’m a junior too, I would say you have a pretty good shot at those schools. It’s good your starting early on preparing for the sat that’ll be a big help in the end. I would say if you continue on this path, you’ll be perfectly fine in getting into those schools.

Chance me back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1179687-chances-columbia-brown-princeton-tufts-uva-williams.html</a></p>

You are jumping the gun a little bit, but I suppose that’s what this competitive game requires. I really would try to involve yourself in more science related activities over the next year. And like everyone has said, do not expect 2250+ for your first time…but after a few tries I’m sure you can get it :)

and remember to consider taking the act too; i was all gung-ho about the sat til i got a 1900; went over to the act and got a 29; hoping to get a 31 this september; Work hard your junior year but remember to mix in a little fun

chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1181068-chance-me-usc-rice-cal-poly.html</a></p>

thanks for the replies, and i will work my hardest. I chanced all who chanced me. Also, does taking math regular hurt my chances a lot? Or is it shadowed by my other accomplishments?

You definitely have a chance in going to most of those schools, but like hypsta said, focus on what you love doing most! and idk about other people, but i think it’ll be shadowed.

chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1180740-way-too-early-but-im-curious-chance-please.html</a></p>

Looks like you have pretty good chances, but to get into SEAS at Columbia you need to take a Math SAT subject test and Chem or Physics (which you’re good with Chem). Math 2 has a crazy curve on it (you can get 6 wrong and still get an 800). School is going to be difficult if you want to do science and aren’t strong in math, but you seem like a hard worker so it shouldn’t be a problem for you
Chance back please?

Thanks for the replies, and I chanced you back. So, it is not that I am horrible in math, but it is worse that science, which stinks. I was actually really good in math until geometry honors, which I hated. But keep the chances coming!

Also, is it bad that my research is more physics than chemistry or bio? And of Cornell, JHU, Brown, Dartmouth and Duke, which offer the best science program (specifically medicine)?
