I would like to get into Brown, Duke, UC Chicago, Stanford, Yale, Columbia, UC Berkeley or UC Los Angeles. Safety is UC Davis.

But before i go into listing my grade point, ec's, ect i think it will make more sense if i explain my school.

I go to an alternative high school which does not have ap, honors, and any kind of "special advanced class." For example, instead of ap calculus or honors calculus, we have calculus 1,2,3. We do not receive any kind of extra grade point for these so its actually impossible for any student in my school to receive any grade point over 4.0. So in a sense my weighted and unweighted scores are the same. I am not sure if this negatively effects me in any way, i sure hope not. Thefore, the classes we take are pretty much all the same so I am not sure how schools would read my "course rigor" per say.

Anyways on to gpa, class rank ect ect

Junior
GPA: 4.0
Class rank: Top 5%
SAT: Going to take it in a month....

EC:
Robotics team captain
FNL mentor and chapter leader
Eagle Scout
NYLT logisitics coordinator and assistant course leader
Intern at school's chemistry lab.
Tons (like hundreds?) of community service hours.

I'm pretty passionate about robotics so i plan to create my own team soon. Really depends if i will have the time. I most likely will :D i just love building machines

I can't really think of anything else at the moment that will help so that's pretty much it! Ill add more if i find some more. Chow

nothing special here. i have had three friends apply to ivies. (we dont rate at my school either with aps and honors) He had a perfect 4.0 with 6 or 7 aps, and a perfect 2400… and got denied from every single one he applied to. on the other hand there was a class president, state president of deca, and so on and with very bad heath and she got into some. you need a sob story, like rags to riches or just be to different.
any who you can till take ap testing, and get 5’s even if your school doesnt offer aps.

Im sure I can think of a sobby story for them. Whether or not it will be unique or special waits to be seen. I know getting into Ivies are a crapshoot so im sorta “wishing” for ivies and actually aiming towards UC Berkeley. If i suddenly get a letter saying i got into MIT ill be happy too.

Sobby doesn’t mean much.
If you are a top performer and show yourself to be well rounded in activities, write well, take the most challenging classes available and get great LoRs, you are in decent shape. Adcoms don’t pick only the 2400 kids. They pick the kids who will fit and succeed at their colleges.

^True. Don’t lower your hopes, dude. You have great grades and EC’s and are definitely competitive for the Ivies. Show your passion for robotics and I am positive you will get into at least one.

I was reading some college admission essay tips and it seems everywhere i go its always some sort of conflicting viewpoint. Make it funny. Don’t make it funny. Write about challenging obstacles. Don’t focus on obstacles. Begin with a funny anecdote. Start it off serious. Its all so confusing. Supposably, these came from reputable sources such as Kaplan and Sparknotes :(. I can write a good sob story that i think not many people write about, but im thinking also writing about my experiences as a robotics team captain. Its more of who I am what I like to do.
