um, it might not rain. Sometimes it says it will and then it barely does or doesn’t at all. Sometimes it just rains in the morning. Then again, sometimes it’s a torrential downpour. I wouldn’t worry about it too much though.

it probably will… wear your rainboots, coat, and bring an umbrella!!!

We were up there two weeks ago and the weather report was for rain all weekend. It only rained on the last day as we were driving home. Be prepared but post #2 is correct — you never know. Bring an umbrella, water resistant walking shoes and warm clothes as the temperature can change. Rain or shine it should be a lot of fun.

I have decided not to let the rain spoil our time. I’m still really looking forward to it. I feel for the people planning the events because some are scheduled for outdoors. I am sure they will figure something out.

It said it was supposed to rain today. Not saying it still won’t rain later, but right now it is sunny and dry…

Right now, its pretty bad…

Bump!

So the farmer’s market tonight was pretty crazy! In the beginning it was ok, overcast but no rain, not too cold. THEN, about 7pm it started pooring, it was windy, freezing, there was lightning, thunder, and even HAIL! I’ve never experienced weather like this before! All the booths downtown had to close up early, and most everybody left by 8. It took me 45 minutes just to drive out of downtown to my hotel. I guess that means there are a lot of people here for open house! What a crazy first night in San Luis Obispo! :)

I feel for those putting on the Open House…at least Thursday and Friday’s outdoor events. Saturday is supposed to be dry, but chilly and windy. I’ve been to the last two Open House weekends and both times it was sunny weather. Often in the afternoon a wind will kick up, regardless. But, torrential RAIN and THUNDER in the Spring??! Arrrrghhh! I’m a fair weather person, so I’m not going to be a happy camper tomorrow when I get down there in the afternoon. The forecast is 100% chance of rain and probably thunder. I’m bringing our dog, so I really wanted to get some walking in. Well, we can hope for a better day on Saturday!

Well at least we know this is as bad as it can get in this otherwise beautiful area. :)

I got to SLO around 4 and the sun was out. It was dry, but chilly and windy. I ran into sporadic rain on the drive down, but was pleasantly surprised that it was dry in SLO. And there shouldn’t be rain tomorrow. Sunday will be the nicest day, in the low 70s. So, it’s all good! No, not the usual warm weather I see during Open House…but it makes for some lush, green foothills.

My son the BRAE (ag engineering) major said the tractor pull was cancelled due to the rain. But that they’ll have Poly Thunder and Mustang Fever (the department’s 2 tractors) out for display out at the farm building today. Son’s in charge of the BRAE’s open house. If you visit, say hi to Kevin and have him show you what the BRAE majors do.

Open House day was the worst weather I’d seen here in the last year. It is almost always significantly better.

Rxcat: My sophomore daughter had planned on us going to the Tractor Pull. She hadn’t seen it before. Well, she has two more years of Open House, so hopefully the weather will be better. :)

This was our first Cal Poly Open House and even though the weather wasn’t ideal, my daughter thought it was well worth it! Our primary mistake was not allowing enough time for parking on Friday, so we missed the Women in Engineering presentation at 9 am. We took the Grand Ave entrance, and it took us over an hour to get to the parking lots. We should have entered through California/Highland, and allowed more time! We also forgot to bring umbrellas and warmer jackets/footwear, so we had to borrow them from our older daughter who lives in PCV. We’re from Colorado, and we wrongly assumed CA couldn’t be that much colder. Thankfully Sat and Sun were sunny and clear, and we were comfortable with a light sweatshirt. The college welcomes were great, and my daughter found the specific department tours and presentations to be very informative. We also attended the club showcase and met many friendly Cal Poly students. The Design Village in Poly Canyon was quite impressive. My daughter has already committed to Cal Poly, and attending Open House made her feel more comfortable and answered many of her questions. Hope everyone else had the same positive experience!

I went to the open house and really liked Cal Poly. Similar experience to what Osakadad reported his son had last year. I also came home and SIR’d.

@engineerisme where exactly is the link to pay the SIR’d? I already accepted my admission, even put downpayment for housing, but still can’t find how to pay the SIR

@engineerisme – Nice!! Big congrats and I am glad that the bad weather did not deter you. You are gonna love Cal Poly. Great job!

I did not see somewhere to pay either. I just did the acceptance and did my housing. Hopefully I did not miss something.

I called the Admission’s Office today and they said there is no SIR to pay for Cal Poly…it’s just the housing fee and thats it, for now.
