It's HOW much?

So i'm just wondering, perhaps from some parents with students at Tulane. How much exactly can I expect to pay each year? I received the 22k scholarship and am hoping to get additional money via CS Scholarship. But as of right now, what will be the damage?

P.S. No hope for financial aid.

Here’s the bad news (This is a PowerPoint presentation, if it opens at the beginning, the numbers are on the 20th or 21st slide I think):

http://www.tulane.edu/~finaid/2009%20Money%20Matters%20Fin%20Aid%20&%20AR.ppt#272,22</a>, Cost of Attendance

Summarizing, it is $50,100 for tuition, fees, and room&board, $1,200 for books, and about $1,000 for spending money. transportation depends on where you are from. Since you are from Philly, assuming you can get cheap Southwest tickets and do 4 round trips a year, let’s say another $1,000. Oh, and this was for the class that just entered, I assume it is somewhat more this coming year.

So total is about $54,500 afeter expected increase. Leaves you with just over $32,000. Please don’t cry all weekend. Of course if you get the CS Scholarship that would reduce it by $5,000-$15,000, the latter obviously makes it highly significant. I hope that doesn’t knock Tulane out for you. But no question, it is expensive.

Don’t worry, definitely isn’t taking it off my list. So far its the cheapest school! I won’t get to visit until mid-March but I cannot wait!!!

The nice thing about that scholarship, DS got the same one, is that it brings the cost down to about that of a public school. Another way to look at it is that Tulane is willing to pay you $88,000 (+ maybe more $$$) to go there!

So true! UC tuition and other costs have gone up so much that I pay about the same (or maybe a bit less) for my son at Tulane.

From another parent in CA…

…and without the cutbacks going on at the UCs. A lot of kids will end up spending an extra year or two getting a four year degree due to class cutbacks.

There was a great segment on npr about the cutbacks at UCLA. Completely validates AVHS Dad’s statement. The link is [California Budget Woes Hurt University System : NPR](California Budget Woes Hurt University System : NPR) but if this gets deleted just go to npr.org and type UCLA into the search box and see the story on “California Budget Woes”.

Here’s a breakout of the Tulane fees http://financialaid.tulane.edu/idxcoa0910.htm</a></p>
