Its Not Penn State

Sigh…so today my friend and I were with a group of parents for an event for school…and my friend says, I’m going to insert top 30 school!! All the adults were like, “Wow, that is a great school”, etc, etc, as it rightfully is. Then, I say “University of Pennsylvania”…silence. “Oh. that’s a straining good school.” It was announced in the same tone as if I was going to study mechanics at PepBoys.

when i say im going to pen state evryone is like 'OH, WOW UPENN IVY LEAUGE" nay just playing, i feel you guys the same happens to my older brother

Anon_Person I’ve had that happen except in the context of Penn vs PSU.

The conversation usually starts with the person (usually adult/parent) asking where I go to school and I say Penn and then they get excited and say “congrats on Penn State, good job etc etc” and then I correct them by saying University of Pennsylvania in Philly and then they say “oh, I see, thats nice” in a much less enthusiastic tone.

At that point I just feel bad for those people, seeing as how I live an hour outside Philly and not knowing the difference is inexcusable.

haha i love this argument. My older brother just graduated from Upenn, and I go to the honors college at penn state, so i’ve been dealing with this for a couple of years now.

I couldn’t count the number of times people got our schools confused (we are two years apart). It’s great when I wear my “Upenn t shirt” on campus at PSU, and when my brother wore a Penn State shirt around his campus.

I don’t let it bother me because i see it from both sides. It’s pretty funny if you think about it

lol. It’s nice to look at it with humor, especially since it’s something so insignificant that people get so worked up about. I think it would be hilarious if people just started wearing Penn State shirts at Penn because that’s a nice way of poking fun at the people who still manage to get the schools confused. Thanks for posting.
