As an alumni of Loyola College, I just received an email from Fr. Linnane informing us that effective 8/15/2009 Loyola College will be renamed LOYOLA UNIVERSITY MARYLAND. This should come as no surprise to anyone who has followed this story closely. It also hits home with me because it means that my daughter will be a member of the first graduating class of the new LOYOLA UNIVERSITY.

I dont think a school changing it’s name is a good thing

The name change is part of the new ten year plan that was just approved by the Board of Trustees. It was done to recognize the University status that Loyola achieved along time ago and its commitment to the future. It really isn’t a drastic change and I think is a positive move. For the record, the School or Arts and Scinces is now called Loyola College.

Hmmm.

Mixed feelings.

Not so fast. Not everyone in the marketing department seems to be on board. Saw ad for “Loyola College in Maryland” at the Washington Capitals game the other day

The official date for the name change is August 15, 2009 so it is almost a year away. That is why it is still advertised as Loyola College. I guess they want to have everything in place like Marketing etc before it happens.
