It's OFFICIAL, NEW COACH

Breaking News, Michigan Football Just Hired Urban Whinner As Our New Coach.

where did you get that? Do you have a link?

LOL, I just had to write this: Now that they've gotten that big decision out of the way, maybe the admissions office can deal with all the applicants who haven't heard about decisions yet from October......

what? rivals has nothing, mgoblog has nothing.

nice...joke...

sorry i heard it wrong.. we got jim "my vest is so fugly" tressel

Might as well joke about it, since this hiring process has turned into a joke. Hate to sound so negative, but I have 0 faith in Bill Martin to make the right choice. I think UM is in for a tough couple of years.

i apologize for the previous misinformation, i didnt realize they had a press conference announcing that tony dungy will be our next head coach. Bellichick will monitor the recruiting process to make sure we dont cheat. i heard there's also a good chance that charlie weis will join us and reunite with bellichick

Since when does a hiring process (be it for a coach or a university president) have to be conducted with full disclosure to the media and fans? Everything you read is full of conjecture based on undisclosed sources. If he was still alive we could ask Shakey Jake.

Let's just wait and see how things turn out. Bill Martin didn't make mega money in private life by being stupid.

I am surprised and amazed that Wisconsin had a better and smoother transition plan from Barry A to Brett B. Never missed a beat.

I'm convinced Miles will be the coach, and he is going around making claims and signing contracts at LSU just to get his team into believing that he is staying. I think he still really wants to win a national championship and a coach that is considering leaving his team isn't going to have many players that want to play for him. Why is Michigan "struggling" so much to get a coach? Well I'm pretty sure it's because they are putting on a show and just waiting till after the NCG.

i bet my house that miles will NOT be the next coach...nor should he, if he is, michigan will lose the respect and class that defines the university.

The longer we it takes to make a hire, the more I think that it is gonna be Les Miles. I think at this point, if that isn't the plan, Martin has to be getting pretty desperate. Too bad that like Martin, Coleman is so damn stubborn. Unless Martin has some amazing plan that nobody knows about (or is going to go with Miles), he should be fired at this point. Added to that, letting Mary Sue and Lloyd pick a new football coach is not a good idea.

Miles would be great, he would be a dirty recruiter too.

Miles is not coming folks; he isn't going to make himself the new Saban. And we also won't be getting a great coach, you can thank the fantastic trio of Martin/Coleman/Carr for that. Great Times!!

Futbil: Carroll and Tressel were the 3rd and 4th choices at USC and OSU. Think they aren't great coaches?

vc08: First, USC and OSU didn't have an outgoing coach influencing the hiring process (deny it all you want, Carr has a voice, pretty substantial one at that, in this process) and secondly, they also didn't have an AD who went sailing during one of the most important stretches of the hiring process. Oh and I believe they used search firms while good old sailor boy is too old fashioned to even to do that.

true, but what's the difference? a thrid choice at SC will be the same level as a 3rd choice at UM (probably lower even, SC did not have nearly the fb rep that Mich does when Carroll was hired). I've been keeping track of the candidates, and all of them have proven themselves to be either winners or rebuilders. From Cal to Delaware to Ball St., those teams are succeeding at a level far superior to what they used to. Give Michigan a break, Martin may not have handled the process well, but the media is partially to blame as well. Let's reserve judgement until we know who the coach is. Who knows, maybe he has someone in mind who will blow us all away.

SC was down, but I can't see how they didn't have a football rep. OJ Simpson, Marcus Allen, a bunch of national championships.

What have you been keeping track of? There are really no 'leading' or even serious candidates at this point in the search. Just as quickly as the Delaware thing came up yesterday, it was shot down. There are three people that Martin has spoken with who haven't turned down the job: Hoke, DeBord, and English. That's it, your list of candidates at this point in time. The way it's trending, the coaching search will go into January.

true, those are the only three, but you'd be foolish to say others havent been contacted or arent interested. what about those coordinators from high powered programs? SC's offensive coordinator, the DC from OK, etc. there are tons of people out there waiting for a huge break, who would fulfill a dream by being able to coach the wolverines. and there are a ton of people out there who will succeed.

SC has always been known as "tailback U", but even in SoCal, we havent necessarily considered SC on par with ND, TX, etc. until recent years. they go in spurts; they'll have a decade of greatness, and a decade of mediocrity.

Norm Chow will not be in maize and blue next year, trust me on that one.
