its so frustrating

i wish i had atleast one friend going to cmu...but NO ONE i know is going...NO ONE...

ALL my friends are going to Rutgers or somewhere in NJ...this sucks...i hate going into new places not knowing anyone

I'd prefer not to know anyone. If I did, I wouldn't meet new people. That's what heppened to me going into High School, and just this year I've broken from those old friendships.

yeah i guess thats a good point..im nervous though..lol

I'm not sure if CMU has a facebook or myspace or whatever, but maybe you could find some friends through something like that, so at least you know a handful of people.

yeah maybe ill look into that over the summer...i dont even care if i know a lot of people or not...but one person would be nice

http://cmu.beyond-sanity.org/ has a list of screen names, facebooks, myspaces, livejournals, etc going of newly enrolled freshman.

if that helps

CMU has Facebook.

BTW, I went to high school in Belgium, so nobody I knew was going to college remotely near me (I believe I was the first person from my school to even apply to CMU). I viewed it as an opportunity to start fresh in a social environment: in my early years in high school I picked up a reputation as a smart kid with zero social skills (which I deserved), but then I started to gain social skills, but I still had that reputation. Going to college and not knowing anyone was excellent for me because I got a chance to meet people without being preceded by my reputation. I hope you get what I mean here. I'm saying if you see it as an opportunity rather than a big scary change, it makes it much easier and more pleasant.

ThinkDifferent, we thinkSame

Sry, I had to :D

I'm kind of getting like that. All these four years I've been dying to get away from my town and everyone in it. But now I'm kind of wishing I knew someone. I find myself saying "OH man! You should go to UPitt! So we can be near each other!" Or trying to convince people deciding between Cornell and CMU to go to CMU. When I was the one who was always like I CAN'T WAIT TO GET AWAY FROM HERE.

It's more a last minute cling "I'm going to miss everyone so much!" sort of thing. But really, it's college (I think I might've said this before, lol). We'll meet new people, make new friends. If we had friends from previous years, we would block out new friends and have pre-existing cliques, be in our safety zones. In college it's like we'll have a chance to start over..which I badly need. EVERYONE'S going to be starting over. I like the idea of being PART of a group, starting a group. Instead of joining one where everyone's already friends, you know?

Lol, and I think every college has Facebook..even non-existing ones.

And, seriously, don't worry, I get nervous too. Like, with meeting friends, and if guys'll think I'm hot or not, and being smart/able to succeed in classes. It's mainly paranoia though, I think. I'm sure we'll be able to find friends. Even the anti-social people should be able to do homework together..

And (I know this is long, lol) It seems like EVERYONE is going to Rutgers. 2 of the top 5 in my school are. Along with like 50 others. It kind of seems like a waste, but.. it's their decision. I heard Rutgers is losing money though, so that kind of sucks...

yeah i know your right but its just scary...everyone in college seems like their idea of going out is partying and drinking...although i do drink occassionally...im more of a movies, going out to eat, going to the park kinda girl (wow i sound like im 10) :p

so your from new jersey too? which part?

yes, nj people... where are you guys from? (morgan17, NotAPrettyGirl)
I'm in princeton

Nooo way! I'm like that too, except I don't drink at all.. I kind of suck with the whole party scene. From visiting these forums, I got the idea that half the people who go to CMU are like that too. 50% drink, 50% just kind of chill like us. Go shopping, watch movies, bowling (I'm sooo bad at bowling, lol), etc. I actually mainly chill with guys who play video games like 24/7, but I do prefer to go out and have fun (there's just no one here who, you know, has an interest in anything aside from drinking..).

But CMU has a pretty good record, considering almost every college I've heard of like, 95% of the people drink and party.
That's what we get for going to a dork school! =D

I'm from Monmouth County (central shore).
if you want my sn (as goes for anyone else on this board..)
you could private message me. I'm so paranoid about privacy, lol.

VIDEO GAMES! Too tempting...

(I'm trying to finish my hw...)

But I do agree about the drinking thing. I never touched the stuff, and don't plan to. It's nice to know that there are others who do. And others who suck at bowling.

omg i LOVE going bowling but i SUCK!!! and yeah ive drank only like twice in my entire life...and im not a party person at all...and if i am...i definatly wasnt aware of it

id really like to IM you sometime, so if its okay with you just pm me the sn

actually, I completely forgot about a SN I made for college....
I kind of planned on ditching all the people I like half know, lol

it's outdated731.
I wanted NotAPrettyGirl, but it was taken...which was frustrating.
haha, which relates to this topic!

anyone can feel free to IM me on that
(there's no info on it -- I feel safe, lol)

haha so much frustration...ill IM you tommorow!

im from bergen county...thats not too far from you is it?

is bergen county near upper saddle river?

noo idea.
I'm kind of not allowed to leave uh, my town.
lol. I actually don't even know my neighborhood streets that well.

which is only more reason to look forward to college.
FREEEEDOMMM

according to yahoo im 29 minutes away from it!

dont worry, neighborhood streets arent my specialty either :)
