It's Time!!! (Regular Admission Decisions)

ADMISSION STATUS: Accepted!
SAT (M/V/W): ACT= 21 (test arent everything, after all)
GPA (unweighed): 3.55
GPA (weighed): N/A
CLASS RANK: 15th Precentile
ECs: President (2 Clubs) Sec. (1 Club), Basketball, Track and Field, Founded Projects, lots of community service!
CLASSES: 15 Honors and APs

IN STATE/OUT OF STATE: In-state

COMMENTS: Congrats to all accepted! To those denied, you are still wonderful, you have amazing stats and dont let that measly decision ruin your future endeavors!

Let me say one thing also I think if I put undecided in I would have been accepted. Instead I was stupid and put the most competitive major they have which is Finance. Oh well maybe I will get in maybe I wont. If not Ill head to Georgia State who does have a pretty good business program(just behing UGA).

hahaha RodLo...you know, they were just intimidated by me. That's why i got denied. That's the truth right there. :-)

Exactly! :D lol

Congrats to everyone who got in! Hope to see ya'll in Athens next year. As for everyone else, keep in mind it is MUCH harder to get in out of state and it sounds like everyone found other perfectly good places to attend. Best of luck to everyone in the future.

This is ********...

denied.... 1150 SAT 3.85 UW GPA

Awesome ECs, 3 APS, Great essays, Great Teacher Recommendation Im glad mr 1100 SAT got accepted though

cleak, "Diverse learning environments" can be a pain in the ass, no?

We should write our congressmen or something...

I had a 3.6 GPA and a 1300 SAT and I got in; it's hard to tell how much they weigh the URM status into things. UGA is 80% white, and from the looks of things they're desperate to change that image. Every page on the housing booklet had a bunch of white people and one african american or hispanic "studying" or "hanging out".

It's ridiculous my friend who's white and got in, which im glad he did cause he's a good man, had an 1160 and a 3.8 gpa while another one of my friends just got denied with a 3.7 and a 1220 both are white males I would like to know how they decided that? I understand racial diversity is freakin awesome obviously but still stats are stats.

I hate to hijack this thread further, but I personally think affirmative action is inherently illegal- it's reverse discrimination against those of us who spent four years working our ass off in high school. Racial diversity for the sake of racial diversity is bull. I'm Asian, and Affirmative action doesn't help me in any way- I'm a "minority", but I'm not "under-represented" in the postsecondary educational world.

So seriously, write your congressmen or someone about this. This is wrong!

well...I have a friend (who's white) that got in with a 980 SAT and a 3.7 GPA...and a black friend with a 1250 SAT and 3.5 GPA got rejected...soooo....hmm...

but what can I say...it's good to be black...I understand that they use affirmative action but I'm not responsible for my skin color so don't get on my arse...I'll be a Dawg next year :)

Congrats to all who got in!

I'm not getting on your arse, bluthunder; I wish you all the best at UGA, though you're clearly going to a sucky school ;) (Ahem, says the Georgia Tech student)! I will get on the arse of those dirty thieves in Washington though.

Best of luck in Athens, and remember: Your football team may beat us every year, but we're still smarter! Haha!

instead of writing your congressman, how about you just score higher on your SAT? Seriously how do you think asian people feel that get rejected from a school with a 2400? Grow up.

^^lol congrats to you too...Nov221963

even though you'll be so busy slaving away in the textbooks, being chained to a laptop, going to sausage parties, getting deflated grades, AND losing to our football team...I'm sure you'll enjoy Tech :) lmao j/k

WOW holy *ing *, I just found out online that I got in. I knew I would for SURE get rejected.

ADMISSION STATUS:
SAT (M/V/W):530/540/540
GPA (unweighed): 3.00 (close to 3.1)
GPA (weighed):N/A
CLASS RANK: N/A
ECs: A ton. Seriously, a ton. I think it's what got me in.

IN STATE/OUT OF STATE: Out of state (rhode island) could've helped me too

COMMENTS: Kickass essays+ec's, but man, I can't beleive I got in with a 1070 SAT and a low GPA. Other factors is I'm 1st generation and parents weren't born in the US. Still, Wow...

Just because I KNOW you guys won't beleive me, here's the letter from online...

lol ^^^^ I think this tells me enough about the quality of a UGA education.

instead of writing your congressman, how about you just score higher on your SAT? Seriously how do you think asian people feel that get rejected from a school with a 2400? Grow up.

Ryan, I never held much faith in UGA's education either...haha

I'd write to my congressman because politicians are screwing up the education system in this country. Getting a higher SAT score doesn't change things that are fundamentally wrong with the college application process- if something isn't right, you fix it instead of trying to circumvent the problem. I'd love to continue this with private messages or AIM; I don't think this is the right place to go on about this.

Look guys, there's no need for arrogance/UGA bashing because the admissions office went out on a limb for an applicant. We don't know their reasons for admitting KingJames and we havent' seen the rest of the applications. I'm sure when you're applying to a "reach" school you wouldn't want them to immediately dismiss you based on your GPA or SAT without looking at the other intangibles.

I've been stunned both by the UGA bashing on this board and the attitudes of some of the posters. UGA is a competitive school and can now afford to a pick and choose among its applicants to create the class it wants, just like the Ivies do. Some people are going to be left out as the selectivity of the school increases.

Of course, we could do it like Med and Law schools do- make it be all about your performance on one test and your GPA, plus perhaps what connections you have in the admissions department. There are always going to be problems with college admissions no matter what system you choose. Let's give UGA the benefit of the doubt and say that its admissions officers know what they're doing.

Also, politicians are screwing up everything, not just the education system. It's pretty much a basic fact of politics. You should definitely try to change it if you want, but don't think that education's the only place they screw up big time.

Thanks, Vig. Also, I'd like to add that my GPA skyrocketed after sophomore year. If I recall correctly my JR GPA was 3.87 and half of senior year (which they got) was over a 3.9. That could have interested them. Also, how many kids from my state do you really think apply to UGa??? Not many.

There is a kid at my school that got into UGA with a 1000 because of his "connection in the admissions office". Im not saying that King James doesn't have a right to be at UGA, im just saying I find their regular admissions process to be inconsistent. Unfortunately, this is the state of college admissions across the board.

And I wouldnt put it in the class of ivies if they accept people with sub 1700 SAT scores. I don't think its arrogance, I think its honesty.
