"Some students have a background or story that is so central to their identity that they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story."

What exactly does this "background" term mean? Can it stand for your path from birth to this day? I'm asking this because I don't know if I should focus on only one moment/story of my life, or if I could use several little moments that have made me a person I am today? Something like an autobiographical essay, but less formal.

I think that means what makes you unique, for example things like you’re grown up in Chinatown or you are from a single family. I think you should focus on one moment so that you can tell the full story and really shows why your application would be incomplete without your background.

I think you should feel free to focus on one moment/story OR on several moment/stories that helped make you the person you are. This essay prompt is open to being interpreted either way.

Howyesno6: Please stop posting this thread. You’re getting some good advice already, and it’s preferable to bump up one thread (within reason) than to clog the forums with multiple clones of one thread. So in the future, we’d appreciate if you don’t post more of this.
