If you care at all about the human race, please see "An Inconvenient Truth." It's a presentation about global warming and its tragic and imminent effects, that is, unless we do something.

The effects of global warming may seem to be part of a distant future, but that's not true. It's very real and can happen in the next 50 years. That's not even within our grandchildren's lifetimes or our children's lifetimes. It's within OUR lifetimes!

I'll list just a few of its effects:
-The polar ice caps will melt causing a rise in sea level. Thus, many areas near the coastline will become flooded. For example, a great percentage of the lands of Florida and California will be underwater. This is one of the scariest potential results.
-The ecosystem will be ****ed up. Many species of animals will vanish, from birds to polar bears.
-The number and devastating effects of hurricanes will increase. (Think worse than Hurricane Katrina)
-Higher temperatures all over the world. (Aren't some places already hot enough?)

So I implore you! Please, please see this. Global warming can affect YOU!

Sounds like another version of The Day After Tomorrow. I think most people are very informed about global warming already, though.

It's already affecting us now. Last week it was 75 degrees on the Jersey shore, and it broke the previous record of 61 degrees in January. People wear t-shirts instead of puffy jackets. Disturbing, but it seems as if most people are enjoying the nice weather.

Movie is a glorified powerpoint. Not to mention the ramblings on his own personal life, <--They detracted from the movie.

It was alright but as the vast majority of people on CC are well educated and well aware people the movie wouldn't be anything all that new or captivating for the avg. CCer. :-/ Just my opinion

And will continue to do so. If anything, Canada is going to become a very popular destination in the future and I predict its population will increase dramatically while that of Mexico and Central America will face awful heat.

I just got back from a school viewing of it!

My opinion: Hum.

Thank you, Al Gore, for showing us that you are still bitter about losing to Bush. :p

Glorified self-promoting powerpoint presentation, in a way. It didn't go beyond what the mainstream media covers (albeit it did it in a less mangled, wishy-washy way), and was a bit of a disappointment, really; I was expecting something more from a film so highly touted. It seemed like Mr. Gore was more focused on himself than the subject, and it all felt like a mere video recording of a lecture - epitome of fun, no? The presentation left much to be desired - the way it was shot made it feel like a half-hearted endeavor at best.

I'm all for the principles behind it, but for an informative and not sensationalist show, I'd stick with NOVA.

BTW, RunnigWater (nice name ;)), you wouldn't happen to live near me, would you?

I'll list just a few of its effects:
1.The polar ice caps will melt causing a rise in sea level. Thus, many areas near the coastline will become flooded. For example, a great percentage of the lands of Florida and California will be underwater. This is one of the scariest potential results.
2.The ecosystem will be ****ed up. Many species of animals will vanish, from birds to polar bears.
3.The number and devastating effects of hurricanes will increase. (Think worse than Hurricane Katrina)
4.Higher temperatures all over the world. (Aren't some places already hot enough?)

Okay...

I'm concerned about Number 1 and 3 (Because I don't know how to swim)
Don't really care for Number 2 and animals (However except for fish which is YUMMY!)
Number 4...worries me slightly, however my body endurance has managed to sustain the intensity of a country who's temp. hits 121 degrees during the summer.

I hate it when celebrities devote their time to environmentally friendly causes....urging citizens to put water in their tanks and ride scooters to work. You'll see them in their Prius in West Hollywood on Tuesday...yet on Friday they are out and about with their Mercedes SLK pouring super unleaded fuel into their gas tanks (unless your Oprah who has someone do it for her instead). No thanks...I got bigger worries.

Yeah, but what if this Global Warming things was going to happen anyway? Atleast, that is what I believe. Humans may be speeding up the process. However, this was going to happen. The earth is just going through its progressions. Also, the coast llines will not dissapear over night. It will happen fairly gradually, so there will be enough time to go inland.

If Gore really wanted to be progressive he would have started recommending nuclear power, but in the money there was nary a word. Nice scenic pictures of irrelevant wind power though.

California under water? I like the sound of that. Then, maybe we can drown out all of those Hollywood hypocrites telling us to be environmentally friendly while they drive Hummers.

And, as for Florida under water, I like Florida. However, it's about time we Atlantans get a beach near us...

I thought it was a pretty quality movie. I just wouldn't watch it during the evening as it is rather dry, although Gore, I found was, personable.

RunnigWater,
to tell you the truth, Global warming was not what I was expecting at all. When I read the thread title I thought you were going to talk about mass executions in African or the return of some deadly dieases or an outbreak. And I was not expecting you to be promoting a movie either!
As people have already said, most people are well informed about global warming as it is.

"It was alright but as the vast majority of people on CC are well educated and well aware people the movie wouldn't be anything all that new or captivating for the avg."

No, this proves the vast majority of cc people don't care enough to WATCH THE MOVIE BEFORE GIVING AN OPINION.

"I just wouldn't watch it during the evening as it is rather dry, although Gore, I found was, personable."

Good heavens, this is not a fiction movie for entertainment! Can't you get past the delivery and focus on the CONTENT?

RunnigWater, I commend you for posting this very important info. Too bad enough people don't give a damn to at least watch it with an open mind. Heads buried firmly in sand. Disgusting.

Gore's a dilletante. If you want to read a really chilling and more scholarly work on the subject of environmental degredation and its effect on societies, get a copy of "Collapse" by Jared Diamond. Global warming is just one small part of what's going on in the world.

After reading Diamond's book, by the way, I am now convinced that the shortest path to worldwide environmental disaster and economic collapse is to help "underdeveloped" nations reach for the economic success of western industrialized societies. You have to read the book if you care about the subject.

Global warming is an interesting topic. I personally don't care for celebreties parading the moral high ground when its hyprocrisy but that does not invalidate the issue, Global Warming. We need to be aware of it, and also, since most scientists and that damned Bush Administration have recognized it as a phenomona; it needs to be dealt with. No doubt. My proposal: save the billions (and I mean billions) used in Iraq to invent more environment-friendly methods that enable us to sustain our life and slow down/eliminate global warming. (Too bad I am not president or overlord/king)
