Hey guys, I posted a thread on the individual college forums but then was informed I should post a thread here because less people visit the individual college sites.

I've been an admirer of three smaller named colleges for a year now: St John's college, Reed College, and Marlboro College. I know that the Marlboro community is very small and I'm having difficulty finding people to talk to about personal experiences at this college. I know about The curriculums and student life, but I'm more curious about the personal experiences from individual students attending these colleges. Please feel free to IM me or post a comment on this thread if you have any info for me; it'd be greatly appreciated!

Oh, and I have looked at the livejournal sites for Reed and I'm getting confused navigating to each individual site and no one seems to be responding to my comments. :/

The only thing that I know about Reed is that I have college professor friends who went there, loved it, and felt that they learned a great deal from their interaction with professors. They would like their kids to attend that kind of college. They were both first generation college students, and neither was from the Pacific NW. Now both are extremely well respected in their fields (international law, poetry).

I suggest that you put in your subject header "Reed, St. Johns" "Marlboro" because that will attract posters who know about those colleges.
Best of luck!

thanks for all the help, northstarmom! how do i edit it? i cant find the button :-/

I am not sure how to edit subject headers, but you could start a new thread listing the colleges. Try putting it in the parents' forum and/or college admissions forum.

I suggest a subject line like "Info needed on LACs like Reed, Marlboro and St. Johns"

I had not really considered LACs until some of my friends who are professors kept talking about their own wonderful experiences at LACs. They also said that they wanted their kids to have similar experiences in college. This included profs who teach at large state universities and at well respected national colleges.

RighteousBabe, Forget posting here. I doubt you'll find any Marlboro students on CC so all you'll get is a lot of uninformed opinions from people who don't really have first hand experience.

HOWEVER, if you go to the Marlboro College Livejournal site, you'll find CURRENT Marlboro College students who will answer your questions:
http://www.livejournal.com/community/deadtreepride/ Even if you don't get up the nerve to post there, you can learn alot just by reading the livejournal archives. You can do an interest search at livejournal.com for the other schools as well. Good luck!

thanks so much carolyn
