IU academic deferral..worth it to still audition?

Title sort of says it all. Out of state applicant has been deferred academically and is wondering whether a great audition for the BFA musical theatre can make a difference or not? It seems like it doesnt make sense to go to the audition without knowing you are accepted…any thought?

Since I believe this is only the 3rd audition season for the MT BFA, it is possible that no one on the board will have an informed answer to this. At some schools, the audition can definitely overbalance the deferred academic. Your best course would be to contact someone in the MT department and put your question to them.

That sounds reasonable. I know that some of the schools have people on the boards who answer....maybe IU does and over the weekend someone will post. Otherwise I will take your advice and call on Monday.
Thanks much.

Turtle,
I don't know if you have called the school or not but last year my d was in the same boat. I called and they told me to come and audition. If Pinney wanted you he would go to bat for you. The person (I wish I could remember who I talked to) said that Pinney had done that for another student the prior year.

I actually spoke to someone today who was very nice and they said that there is a chance that they could "sponsor" the person - I guess in otherwords "go to bat" for them if they had a great audition and they wanted them. Thanks for the responses.

I’m currently a rising senior. I was wondering, what are they looking for academic-wise? My SATs scores were horrible cause I’m pathetic at math and it totally pulled my score down. I’m thoroughly studying this summer and retaking it in the fall but I’m so worried my academics will pull me down in all my auditions! I’m sure my refs will be good, I have good ECs, GPA… it’s just that I don’t… test well! LOL. Indiana is one of my top choices. Thanks! :)

bwayjunkie, I don’t think SAT scores are all they look at. They also look at college prep classes and GPA. Have you thought about trying the ACT instead of the SAT? Some kids do much better with one over the other. I think the average SAT for admitted freshman in 08 at IU was 1210 and average ACT was 26. They do have a bit tougher criteria if you aren’t from Indiana (don’t know if you are or not) but if you want to know what their admission standards are check out this link: [Admission Standards: Office of Admissions: Indiana University Bloomington](http://www.indiana.edu/~iuadmit/freshmen/as_standards.php#old) Good luck!

the 1210 is CR and Math right? Yeah I think I’m going to take the ACT as well. Do they require SAT subject tests? I kind of started this whole SAT/ACT thing late so I’m trying really hard to prepare in summer. I’m actually an international student. I’m going to Interlochen in the fall :D

Yes the 1210 is the CR and Math. I don’t think they require subject tests, but take a look at the link I posted before. It pretty much has it all there.
