Hello. I'm a rising junior and was curious about IU's scholarship opportunities. I know that in the past, IU gave automatic scholarships with a certain GPA/SAT cutoff, but I can't find that link on the website anymore (The link from CC is now a 404).

Did IU do away with automatic scholarships? I looked on their scholarships website and all the scholarships are holistic.

Hmm, you’re right! I highly doubt they are getting rid of the automatic scholarships. I did see this on the IU Scholarships main page: “Students interested in applying for fall 2014 admission to Indiana University should check our site regularly as the new scholarship information for 2014 will be announced mid summer.” So maybe check again in July? Sorry, I don’t recall the cutoffs for 2013.

Thanks, that makes sense. Their absence from the site worried me. To be frank, I’m not exactly the most unique person, and I’m not sure if I could get the other scholarships. But I have straight A’s in mostly Honors/AP classes and a 219 on the PSAT (assuming similar SAT when I take it), so I think I’ll fare well on that front. But my EC’s are a little weak in terms of leadership and I’m not the best at writing personal essays, so I wouldn’t want to be competing with my peers on EC quality/narrative essays. I’d really like some assurance I could get something that would cover at least 1/2 of the tuition/room and board when combined with the National Merit Scholarship stuff.

Note to all, especially the OP, IU has changed the scholarship criteria every year since at least 2009. It’s likely it will be changed again before you are ready to apply. Typically it’s been posted in very early June. I wonder how much it’s being changed this year since it’s not been updated yet.
