How many people did IU end up accepting? Anyone out there get the ‘yes’ letter?

I was accepted, and will be attending in the fall.

I'm not sure how many they've accepted, as I've actually only talked to one other person who was accepted.

My daughter received a very nice and encouraging rejection letter from IU MT Theatre Dept. on Saturday. The letter said they had about 10 places for the MT class. The letter also strongly encouraged her to pursue a BA in Theatre at IU.

Wonderful school....okay, i am a little biased since I am an IU grad. :D Will she have the opportunity to audition for MT next year???? I wish they had the BFA program last year!! D is currently a freshman in a MT major elsewhere....one year too late for us. Have you visited the campus yet?

I was accepted into the program and will be attending next fall.

I was speaking with George Pinney and I believe they are only looking for 10-12 students for the program.

i was also accepted into the bfa for next fall, but i am deciding between iu, penn state, and emerson. hey guys who were accepted, do you have facebooks? what made you decide on iu? where else were you accepted? im having the most difficult tiem with this audition!

and for those of you wondering, prof pinney accepted 7 incoming freshman into the program for this fall, along with 7 transfers, so quite a big class he said for next fall. usually it will be 10-12 total.

you should come to IU:) haha. i was deciding between IU, UCLA and Carnegie Mellon. and IU just seemed right. and its such a fun school.
i have facebook...find me. gina ricci. bentley school.

I was accepted as well...looking forward to seeing all you there next fall

Hi I was also accepted into the BFA program at IU. and i cannot wait to see everyone there to start off a great musical theatre program!!

Our s. was accepted at nine of ten schools -- but chose IU even over Miami, where there were only three guys and three girls accepted, because he wanted the whole college experience. I wish we lived in Indiana, though, money-wise. He told me that of the 15 in the BFA class, five were transfer students. I don't know how many are guys and how may girls. He knows one guy. That's all.

The BFA class has 13 students. 7 men and 6 women. 6 are incoming freshman and 7 are transfer students.

Mamalot: I think your son and I went to University of Michigan's summer program last summer. In fact, I think I'm that one guy he knows! Tell Marty that Matt says he has to get a facebook!

I hope everyone who is at IU in MT does love it! My D loved George Pinney and his focus but made the difficult decision to go somewhere else. Wow I had no idea how lucky she was to be accepted. Her friends who go to IU in other fields choked when she said she made another decision. Gina I can see why you chose IU over your other choices. You can get an education in many different ways at IU..it is a real college experience. George also feels it is VERY important to be a well rounded person in many academic areas unlike CM who is totally a conservatory (3 academic classes). Congrats to all of you! We will never know about the road untaken....

According to some people on facebook, IU has been calling students and offering them positions today. Anyone know if they called everyone tonight?

Happy -

We feel your pain! Hearts sunk here too when we heard calls went out and our phone didn't ring. I guess time will tell. If it is any consolation I did hear that last year some received phone calls and some only received letters of acceptance. At this point we can only wait and hope.

I received an e mail from IU today stating that they are still deliberating and that letters will go out some time next week.

Yes, we received that e-mail, too. We are trying to do doomsday scenarios to make sure we have every contingency covered. SO, if nothing comes up, the BA in Theatre is available to all 290 who do not get in. How many of that 290 does anyone here on the site think would take IU up on the BA. Too many, or what? How many took them up last year? Obviously, they are not planning on people taking them up on the BA, or they wouldn't offer it to everyone, but this appears to be a tough year for some people, so what if 1/3 of the people, or 100 people took them up for the BA? Could IU handle it? Wouldn't that make it just too many people to even try to deal with? Would they then make cuts? Any ideas CCer's?

Well, all 290 have to be admitted to the university itself based on academics before they can do the BA in Theatre. This year, IU has had to turn down and wait list a record number of people. MT folks should go onto the CC discussion board and read some of the threads under Indiana University Bloomington (including rejections). As of mid-February, IU had received over 29,000 applications for what I believe is a class of roughly 6,000. So not all 290 (or even those hypothetical 100) may be offered general admission.

There will also be students known as "direct admits" who are granted admission into the BA in Theatre by the College of Arts and Sciences by virtue of high grades, test scores and extracurriculars in high school.

Those who are not "direct admits" in the BA in theatre will be admitted in the general University Division and have to declare their majors later in the process -- meaning after they have a semester or two under their belts.

IU is NOT like Elon where if you get rejected from MT (and also admitted to the university in general), you get an offer to do the BA in Theatre.

My understanding is that ALL IU students may audition for the productions, including BA Theatre, BFA MTs and students majoring in business, French or anthropology. If you are talented and right for the role, my understanding is Mr. Pinney and the other directors will cast you. If you are not right for the role, you will not get cast.

In terms of BAs trying to take the classes that the BFAs take, it's probably first-come, first-served at registration time -- and when the classes are full, you are out of luck. The university is enormous and if you don't register for classes early, you are out of luck whether you are a theatre major or a journalism major.

So it could indeed be challenging if BFA-rejected students storm the school en masse. But it just doesn't seem likely. Just my opinion.

If you have already been admitted to IU academically would that make much of a difference in the MT admission process?

I don't think so. My D was admitted to IU with a large scholarship, was invited into the Honors program and was also invited to apply for additional College of Arts and Sciences scholarships (which we are waiting to hear about) and it didn't do her any good -- she was promptly rejected from MT.

I know it doesn't in general, but from the remaining people who got deferral letters after their auditions. At this point, would all the people on deferral have already been academically admitted or could some be offered an MT slot and then have to decline because they don't meet the admission standard academically?
