I'm trying to decide which one of these is best in the field of journalism/photojournalism and by how much. OSU is in-state for me, so it would be about $12,000 cheaper than Indiana, but I'd much rather go to IU-Bloomington based on what I've seen so far. Thanks.

For journalism, I'd say going w/ more tuition at IU is worth it. Very strong program.

I'm not familiar with IU's undergraduate journalism school, but if it's highly regarded, I would definitely suggest it over Ohio State.

Ohio State has really marginalized their undergraduate journalism program. While they have an exceptional 2 year Master's program for working journalists called the Kiplinger Fellows, they moved that away from the journalism/communications college to the John Glenn School (public affairs).

I'm a huge supporter of Ohio State, but will be the first to admit, it shouldn't be on anyone's list for undergrad journalism.

Out of curiosity, since you'd be paying out-of-state to IU why no interest in Missouri? It's not that far away, is somewhat similar to the Big Ten universities and is one of the "Big Three" J-schools (along with Northwestern and Columbia).

Go with IU. It offers a better overall college experience and the journalism program is stronger. (sorry about the football team, and who knows who the basketball coach will be, but it will be someone good!)

$48,000+ is a lot of money. It depends on your family's finances. If you have to take on that kind of debt yourself, I wouldn't do it. That's a big burden. You don't need to study journalism as an undergrad to be a journalist. Honestly I think you'd be better off studying SOMETHING, and working on the school paper or whatever to get real experience, than studying "journalism". But what do I know. :-)

If money is not a big issue go with IU - excellent journalism program, mostly smaller classes (like a small college within a large university), great teachers, very good student newspaper. If you are not absolutely sure that you want a journalism career I would consider a double major or very strong minor -
