<p>Hello all. I am planning on transferring to Bloomington next fall and I was curious to see what dorms people would recommend. I have done a bit of research and I think Im going to wanna stay away from McNutt. I just have no intentions to party 24/7... From what I understand I can request a specific building seeing as I am going to be a sophomore..When would be a good time to apply for housing for next fall? Also, would I be more eligible for a single dorm being a sophomore/transfer student? Sorry so many questions! Thanks in advance! :)</p>
<p>If you want to stay away from McNutt, don’t choose the Northwestern neighborhood. My D loves living in the Central neighborhood as it’s close to everything. As a transfer student you may request a specific building. At one time the Central neighborhood had the greatest number of singles according to an old article, but the buildings that had the most singles were torn down to make room for several new buildings that will have apartments for returning students. Singles are very limited. </p>
<p>I don’t think you would be given any additional priority for a single simply because you will be a sophomore. As I understand it, assignments are based upon the date one originally sent in a housing request. Thus current freshman (sophomores next year) would have sent in housing contracts earlier than you, and would have more priority for singles. The earlier you send in your housing application, the more likely you will be to get one of your top choices.</p>
<p>Generally singles are not that difficult to get. </p>
<p>I think the reason is because they cost more. When my son was in the dorms (3 years ago), there were actually many singles empty that only became filled when roommates that couldn’t get along were given singles at no additional charge.</p>
<p>I’m going to Iu next fall as well! I stayed there for a week this summer and my boyfriend lives in Wright and likes it. A lot of the dorms have stereotypes, like anything northwest is party central, Eingenmann (sp?) is called Toyko Tower because a lot of Asians live there, Foster is the called the Jungle because a lot of middle eastern and african american students live there, and Reed is for “music nerds” so to speak. (Not my personal opinion, just what I’ve heard from my friends that go there. Teter and Wright are in my opinion, the best way to go if you don’t want to party 24/7 or be close to a particular building… They are both right on the main drag, considered pretty normal, and Wright has the main food court in it. I stayed in an air conditioned part of Teter this summer, and it was nice as far as dorm rooms go. If you’re looking for advice, i’d go with one of those two. Good luck!</p>
<p>McNutt is not that bad actually. Especially now that there is a Convenience store in the dorm and kelley classes, its probably the best dorm for kelley students.</p>
<p>Solidsnake, do you reccomend doing the kelley llc for direct admits? i heard that theres a lot of meetings and its not really worth it.</p>
<p>lots of meetings? only during welcome week there are events but thats it really. There is not much other commitment needed other than the required one credit hr. llc class thats 8 wks long. I would definitely recommend it!!! It makes meeting new ppl so much easier, the dorms are good, there is a convenience store in the dorm’s center (VERY HELPFUL), and people are all business interest so thats even better. I made most of my friends i hang out with from the llc.</p>

<p>Each LLC is housed in a dorm. By requesting a particular LLC you are requesting that dorm/floor. I believe the dorms are identified in the information about the LLCs.</p>

<p>If I end up going to IU I would like to dorm at McNutt. I can still join a LLC for business even though I am a non-direct admission correct?</p>
<p>The Kelley LLC is for both direct and non-direct admit business majors. It is by application and evidently they received many more than they could accommodate this year, so there are no guarantees. There are other dorms at McNutt if that’s the main thing you want.</p>
<p>Honestly I wouldn’t worry about the reputation of McNutt. It really depends just who’s on your floor. I’ve been in certain floors in Teter and it’s out of control, and I’ve been on floors in McNutt and it’s dead quiet.</p>

<p>They aren’t. Only the specific neighborhoods. My daughter wants to be in Sports and Society themed community. I heard from ElizaB that it’s in McNutt currently, I believe. I’ve heard other LLCs or themed communities are in Briscoe. When I spoke to the housing person today because of a computer glitch, she couldn’t tell me which dorm Sports and Society will be in next year. I guess all we can do is hope it’s not TOO partylike every night. 
Like ElizaB said, it all depends who’s on the floor.</p>
