How is IU on OOS need based financial aid? I am going to estimate that my EFC is going to be around $5000 it may be lower or it may be higher. (not sure) My mom's salary is $48,000-50,000 so I am going to need some help. Also, does IU only give out merit aid because almost all the scholarships I see on their website are all merit and most are for Indiana students. I'm also black if that helps. :)

I’m sort of in the same situation. I’m not accepted as of now but, I have been doing some research on financial aid for all my schools. My EFC is going to be around $17,000 (I used a calculator) It’s silly because I’m 21 years old, unemployed and my parents aren’t helping me pay for school. Unfortunately, I won’t get any aid from the government because my parents look like they can afford it, it doesn’t matter that they have 3 children in college. I’m also an OOS student and spending as little money as possible makes IU’s tuition about 36,000 a year for me. As far as the financial aid goes, it seems as if most of the scholarships they offer are based on being an Indiana resident or a freshman applicant. The best luck I’ve had is trying to find scholarships that are run through independent programs. Generally, you can combine the money awarded to help keep costs low. The downfall to this is that most scholarships I’ve run across are only awarded once, so you’ll likely be searching for scholarships every year. Being black may help on your FAFSA application and a few minority based independent scholarships.

I’ll keep looking around and I’ll see what I can find :)

Thanks Lynn :)
