IU Housing Recommendations?

Hi,

I’m an incoming Freshman to IU in the Fall of 2016 and I’m looking for a little advice from people who have been through IU housing before.

I’ve got my roommate picked out, and we can’t seem to decide what dorm to request. Briscoe seems great because it’s new and Northwest seems to be the fun neighborhood. Central standard (Teter and Eigenmann) have prime locations in the central neighborhood, but the houses themselves seem average. Just typical dorm living, nothing special. We’re also considering requesting Southeast enhanced (Spruce and Willkie). Suite living at Willkie sounds amazing with suite style living (private bathrooms and bedrooms with a shared living room) but as we’re not Arts majors, it may not be the best place for us and SE is consistently rated the lowest of the three dorms. And Willkie has the reputation of being an upperclassmen dorm and not made for freshmen.

Any recommendations? Any help is appreciated.

I know you don’t want to hear this, but it really doesn’t matter where you live. However, Eigenmann actually has a terrible location because it’s far away from the stadiums and most classes. I would choose McNutt if I could pick any dorm because it has the best location for the places I go frequently (Hodge Hall, WIC, and southern buildings), and most of my friends live there.

Well yeah, I suppose it doesn’t totally matter where you live long term. I’m just trying to sort through the trade offs of all of the dorms.

Briscoe is nice but far away, Teter is good location but mediocre dorm, Willkies suite living sounds amazing but southeast doesn’t sound as amazing.

I just want to pick the right one and pick up on any advice in the process and trying to see what experiences others had.

At this “late” date, you may not get your first choice anyway. People have been sending in housing deposits for several months.

@rrah

Yeah, we got the application in on the first day. Just updating it and it goes by the earliest date submitted.
