Hi. So US news ranks Kelley in 10th place, tied with Cornell, for top undergrad business schools, from which we can assume that it is a good school. However, it’s acceptance rate is 76%, as opposed to Cornell’s 14%, usually more selective schools have better programs, but this doesn’t seem to be the case for IU Kelley. Why? Other than the fact that it’s public.
Kelley’s acceptance rate is definitely not 76%. IU’s may be. Not Kelley.
Yes, IU isn’t hard to get into - but there are many gated majors which are competitive…Kelley being one of them. When my daughter entered Kelley, she was impressed by the number of people who turned down Ivy League acceptances for better offers at IU. There are lots of great opportunities for students at Kelley. Check it out!
@hkem123 Maybe my sources weren’t good then. Thanks
@tspmf12 I am not sure the percent of freshman applicants that IU Kelley accepts, but the reason it accepts a lot more is that it is a much larger business school, with approx 5500 students (roughly 1200 freshman) versus only about 400 students in Dyson (roughly 95 freshman). Plus Kelley has a direct admit, where if you meet specified criteria (1270 M & CR SAT or 30 ACT and 3.8 or 93 or better) you’re in, whereas Dysan’s admission is more holistic, where average scores of freshman are higher (32 ACT or 1420 M & CR). IU Kelley has a premiere Investment Banking program and has excellent business school programs, resources and faculty, which explains why it is rated so highly.
@scrabblemomb Congrats to your daughter! How does she feel about Kelley? I am definitely considering it, hence the research.
@trackmbe3 The size makes a lot more sense. I just figured enough people would be applying to make up for it. Thanks!
@tspmf12 She likes it! There really are so many excellent opportunities and programs - some are very hard to get into…you work for everything you get at Kelley. It is not a bad thing - but you should know this coming in. I guess what I am trying to say is that once you are in not everything is handed to you - but that is not a bad thing!
Quick question for the Kelley students. My son was accepted OOS to IU and his second choice Public Health, not Kelley. How difficult in your opinion is it to transfer into Kelley as a sophomore?
Transferring into Kelley from another school at IU is not easy unless you’ve planned to do this in advance since Standard Admission criteria are somewhat stringent.
