IU Kelley Petition Tracker 2023

I did and the response is …over 5K petitions, will notify sometime before 14 Apr.

Prior year stats show almost everyone applied to KSB was admitted but only 31% enrolled. Can’t tell what’s behind the veil of DA petitioning and decisioning if everyone is admitted (2022 Applied / Admitted / Enrolled : 9,534 / 9,194 / 2,926). Does enrolled fig include Kelly applicants enrolling in other majors?

Thanks for sharing this resource. The numbers you pulled are for all IU campuses, you should narrow that to Bloomington only. Regardless, the yield is still similar (33.3%).

It’s not clear to me that these numbers include the petitions, because the website states that historically 65% of Kelley petitions are approved. If that 65% is accurate, I don’t think petitions are in these app numbers for Bloomington which shows 7,552 apps and 7.542 accepted. The historical numbers on this table from 2014-2020 look odd.

Something amiss here. Why would app numbers be exclusive of petitions. You would think that only those applied to Kelley will petition.

Here is my hypothesis…Kelley and Purdue’s Mitchell Daniels School of Business are very good back ups for many strong applicants. By end of March many direct admits decide to go to their preferred school leaving slots open for petitioners…

People choose schools for many reasons. If you put much stock in rankings… Kelley hardly seems like a backup. Its undergrad program is a top 10 overall (tied with Cornell, USC, UT and UNC.) Marketing specifically is listed somewhere as a top 3 in the nation, accounting as 4th…
I suspect that the OOS price tag is a real hurdle for many. If you are accepted at your in state school- I can see doing undergrad at home & wait to get spendy with grad school later in life.

I said why it seems petitions aren’t in those numbers…because the Kelley admit rate is showing nearly 100% accepted for the last two years, and the website says typically 65% of petitions are successful.

I also don’t see IU as a ‘back-up’ for many students. IU’s direct admit criteria are not super high, many direct admit students have no chance at Dyson, Wharton, etc.

Direct admits have until May 1 like everyone else to decide where they are going. IU has been accepting petitioners since last fall. Kelley’s yield of 33.3% is well above the national average yield.

thank you for sharing this resource. You can filter by “Kelley school of business” as well. The enrolled percentage for just KSB is 33% for 2022. That’s an incoming class size of 2508. I thought the class sizes are about 3000?

I agree, the hefty price tag is a deterrent.

Actually there is a report, though not for public access, on students admitted but not enrolled. That will throw light on where they go. No doubt Kelly and Purdue are great schools but strong OOS applicants aspiring to go to Ivy leagues, UMich, etc. may have these two as back ups. Cost of education can also be a deterrent for OOS though I fail to understand why one would apply if cost is a concern (possible they hope to get scholarship).

Class size ~2500. On Kelly website, you can see class size split by acct, mktg, SCM, finance, etc for Class of 2023 and 24…

BTW, any of you interested in prior year stats for any other Univ can google for “data digest, admissions, dashboard, univ name”.

What were your stats btw?

1440 SAT (750 ERBW 690 Math), GPA is on a hundred scale, so I’m unsure how helpful that would be.

Congrats…glad things have started to move again. Curious to know when did you submit your review request?

Thank you! I submitted it on the 15th of Jan

So you submitted SAT scores? Was your GPA low because you didn’t need to petition if you met the gpa and SAT requirements (1370 SAT and 3.8 GPA automatic admit to Kelley no need for petition.)

So did your son actually petition to Kelley?

Not submit test scores or met the GPA minimum? (3.8 UW GPA and 1370 SAT or 30 ACT)

Yes he petitioned. He didn’t meet the GPA or SAT min. Though I guess if they took his weighted GPA he was above 3.8 but his uw was 3.65. Not sure if they took his mid-year senior year grades into account.

My GPA overall from freshman up to junior was solid. My senior year grades are pretty trash due to health issues. Since I am on a 100 scale, I couldn’t do the 4.0 conversion and didn’t want to take a chance, so I petitioned.

congrats!
